Rue's POV:
I HAVEN'T SLEPT in about twenty six hours.
I am exhausted to say the least but regret is the farthest thing from my mind.
I dropped the pencil in my hand letting it fall on my notebook and raised my hands to stretch, allowing a yawn to escape. I rubbed my eyes lazily as I glanced at the digital clock placed on my table.
It's currently six in the morning. I have school in about an hour and half. I sighed as folded my arms on the table with my head in the middle.
My gaze fell to the little T.rex sitting right beside the clock. I smiled tiredly as I tilted my head in another weary sigh.
"Hello lovely daughter of mine." My dad opened the door suddenly with two cups of coffee in his hands.
"Good morning." I smiled at him as I closed the book immediately rushing for the coffee in his hand.
"When did you wake up? I heard you about thirty minutes ago." he asked as he sat on the perfectly made bed.
Ah. That's when I went downstairs to get water.
"I got up at four." I paused to take a sip. "Yesterday."
"Aaru!" He groaned. "You know very well your mother will absolutely flip this house if she finds out you aren't getting your sleep."
"Then she doesn't have to find out." I gave my dad a cheeky smile.
Mom can't possibly have an issue with a harmless all nighter when she's used to three sleepless night son her hospital shift days.
"What if I tell her?" He challenged.
I thought for a second nonchalantly sipping on my coffee. "Then I'll tell her you cheated on her diet yesterday with that piece of chocolate."
Dad gasped dramatically. "You will not!"
"But I will." I cackled.
Dad looked at me for a second before letting out a chuckle. "Get ready for school kiddo." He got up as he kissed my head and walked out.
I laid back in my chair and got up with a jolt.
If I rest, I will fall asleep and never wake up.
I ran downstairs about forty minutes later with damp hair wearing a white tank top with grey sweatpants.
If it's functionable it's fashionable.
I let my bag fall on the floor as I quickly tied my platform sneakers.
"Where's mom?" I asked my dad as I picked up an apple from the table.
"She's with her new patient again. Some VIP, I don't even know." He smiled sheepishly.
"Oh. Can you tell her I'll be late in the evening?"
"Of course honey." He nodded as he handed me my packed lunch. "You might want to take a jacket, it looks like rain." He nodded towards the weather outside the window.
"I'll be fine." I smiled as I kissed his cheek and sprinted out the door hearing him yell a bye.
As if right on cue Derek's car stopped just in front of my yard.
As I walked towards it, I could feel a certain wave of emotion spread across my chest.
Derek's here, just like he was last night.
Last night.
The evening mist and his ravishing smile.
I remember it all.
