Rue's POV:
I LOVE FRIDAYS. They allow me to read to my heart's content however late into the night and then sleep in for as long as I want. When I decide to grace the world with my awake presence, my dad makes the best breakfast pancakes.
It's perfection.
Or so it was. It's a Friday night but instead of shimmying into my jammies and picking a book to read, I'm standing in front of my depressing wardrobe to pick out clothes to wear to Derek's stupid party.
Ew.
I heard the doorbell ring and I knew immediately who it was. I ran down the stairs, to the door to open it.
Alas, I was right. Derek Smith stood in front of my house in his black leather jacket glory, untamed hair messily set and a grin adorning his face.
"Hello Rue the one for me." He tilted his head in greeting.
"I'm not ready yet. Go wait in the car." I said sternly.
"Are you getting ready for little ol me?" He sung teasingly as I glared at him.
I slammed the door in his face.
I took a deep breath as I ran upstairs. I decided to wear a simple white lace tank top with loose black jeans and topped it off with a leather jacket to really sell the 'matching couple' vibe.
I don't know if all couples do that but Anne and her boyfriend enjoyed 'twinning' their clothes so I suppose I can give it a try. Only because I'm thorough no matter the task.
Although I'm only trying the whole matching outfits thing for Derek, I can't help but secretly feel a trace of curiosity. I have never even held hand with a boy let alone formed a full relationship.
Fake relationship.
I'm curious to know what it's like to do all those things I never allowed myself to do. It feels weird justifying something I would have regretted a week ago by the mere title of 'fake'.
If it's not real, it's okay.
But what if it feels real?
Is it okay if it feels real?
I brushed those thoughts away as I grabbed my phone and rushed out. "Mom, I'll be late!" I yelled hoping she wouldn't question me.
"Where are you going?" She came out of her room, cross armed.
Well, shit.
"Out." I tried to be nonchalant as I tied my boots, compliments of my dad.
"Out where?" She lowered her glasses. "With who? How late?"
I turned around and straightened my clothes. "Out with Derek to a simple house party. I'll be back in two hours and I'll keep you updated."
"House party?" She gasped. "Aaru! They do drugs there! And the alcohol! And the boys! Hay bhagwan you can't go!"
"Mom!"
Just then, the doorbell rung again. I opened the door to reveal Derek Smith. Again.
The same leather glory and ravishing smile.
"Hello Mrs. Carson!" He greeted ignoring me. He removed his shoes and stepped inside faster than I could process.
"Oh Derek! I didn't know you were already here!" My mom laughed as she welcomed the idiot inside.
"I was here! But your daughter locked me out." He pouted as he feigned innocence.
"Aaru!" My mom reprimanded.
