Next day

It’s 9:30 in the morning. My eyes are slightly swollen, and there’s a throbbing pain in my head, but somehow, I manage to get up. I drag myself to the bathroom to freshen up. After a shower, I step out wrapped in a towel and head to my wardrobe. I pick out a simple white suit and get dressed. Standing in front of the vanity, I notice the dark circles under my eyes and the puffiness that gives away the night I spent crying.

I pick up a concealer to hide the dark circles anything to make sure mom and dad don’t worry about me. I can’t let them see me like this. I don’t want to explain why my face looks like this or why my heart feels so heavy.

Today, I’m not going to the office. I’m not in the right state of mind to face people, to talk, to pretend everything is okay. I just want to be alone. My mind is still reeling, and my heart is breaking all over again. How could his love be just a bet? How could all those moments, all those feelings, be nothing but a lie? It’s unbearable to think about, and yet I can’t stop.

Tears begin to stream down my face again as I stand there, lost in thought. Suddenly, I hear the door to my room creak open.

"Beta, are you awake?" Mom’s voice breaks through the silence.

I panic for a moment and quickly wipe my tears, hoping she doesn’t notice anything is wrong.

“Yes, Maa, I’m awake,” I reply, trying to keep my voice steady. She steps into the room, her eyes scanning me with concern.

Mom asked, "Beta, are you okay?"

I forced a fake smile and replied, "Yes, Mom. I'm fine."

"How’s your hand? Is it still hurting?" she asked again, her concern evident.

"It’s better now. It doesn’t hurt anymore," I lied.
But the truth was, this pain was nothing compared to the wound in my heart. This wound would heal, but the one in my heart? I wasn’t sure if it ever could.

"Alright, but still, take care of yourself," Mom said.

"Okay, Mom," I replied quietly.

"Oh, I almost forgot why I came here!" she exclaimed suddenly.

"What is it, Mom?" I asked, narrowing my eyes in confusion.

"Come downstairs. There’s a surprise for you," she said with excitement.

"A surprise? What kind of surprise?" I asked, still puzzled.

"Come on, I’ll tell you everything," she said with a mysterious smile.

"Alright," I replied reluctantly and followed her.

When we reached the living room, I froze in shock.

"You? I mean... what are you doing here?" I asked, staring at Samarth, who was sitting there casually with a woman who looked to be around 55 years old.
