"Why did the two of us have to come all the way here?"

Pilai muttered under her breath as Arthitwit forced her to accompany him to Chiang Rai. They had sold Arada's ruby necklace, got the money, and were preparing to return it to Khewun. They kept a portion of the money as seed capital for their plans.

Arthitwit wanted a second chance to do business with Khewun. He had a customer base in several nightclubs and pubs, and getting hold of the product would help him turn a profit and escape abroad. The problem was, without paying back the money, Khewun wouldn't agree to provide a new batch of goods.

Times were tough for him. With police warrants issued everywhere, he had to lay low, staying in discreet motels to avoid attention.

"Come on, if we didn't show up, Khewun would think we're not serious."

"How can you be so sure that once he gets his money, Khewun will let us continue working?"

"Oh, come on. Couriers as reliable as us aren't easy to find. Plus, we have distribution channels. Think about how much profit we've made for them already. If Khewun refuses, we can take it up with his boss directly."

"You know Khewun's boss?"

"No, but if we could get a chance to meet the big boss, things might get easier. We wouldn't have to take orders from Khewun anymore. You've seen how he constantly pushes us around."

All this time, Arthitwit had been receiving heroin through Khewun. He had heard that the drugs originated from a new kingpin who had risen to power recently. No one knew who he was or where he came from, but rumors said the production base was near the border.

"I'm worried it won't be that simple. What leverage do we have? The police are already after both of us."

"I have my ways. With stuff like this, you have to take risks to get results."

The two hauled their luggage out of the car and walked toward a budget motel. Just then, they noticed a man and a woman stepping out of a taxi across the street, heading into a three-star hotel. Arthitwit's eyes widened as he nudged Pilai.

"Isn't that Mom Kes?"

"Yes, and that man with her is the one who beat you up that night."

Arthitwit clenched his fists, his eyes burning with rage as he glared at the couple dragging their luggage into the hotel.

"It's them again. Just thinking about it makes my blood boil. I should've claimed that Mom as mine from the start."

"Enough! Isn't the trouble we're in bad enough already? Just message Khewun and focus on our work."

Arthitwit's gaze darkened with malice. He decided to let them go for now, but one day, he vowed, he would get his revenge.

"Kong, have you packed everything yet?"

Kwanruthai glanced at her brother, who was slinging a backpack over his shoulder. Every time he ventured into the forest, he packed meticulously. But this time, she knew it wasn't just an ordinary trip. Danger lurked in every shadow.

"Kwan, you have to take care of yourself while I'm gone."

"Can I come with you? I'm worried about you."

"No. Your duty is to stay here and keep an ear out for any news from me."

"But I have this terrible feeling. I'm scared something bad will happen to you."

Tears welled up in Kwanruthai's eyes. She had already lost someone close to her and didn't want to lose her brother too. Her hands still trembled from visiting Sarmlee at the hospital earlier that day, where she remained unconscious.
