It is cruel of me to say but I feel that I have been blessed by being shot. I have been sent to the infirmary and they have been very kind to me. I am lucky that I do not have to endure one more day off struggle out in the field. The pain of my injury is starting to reside and they will let me leave in a couple of days, I am expected to report back and ready to fight. I have met a lovely nurse by the name of Dorothea Dix. She had the gentle hand and reminds me very much of my mother. When I had just arrived at the infirmary she had realized by first glance that I was a woman. My fear of being exposed to everyone grew till she had finally spoken soothing words to me. She had asked me what had possessed me to join the union at such a dangerous time, I had told her I was in search of my husband Thomas. I had showed her a picture of what my Thomas looked like before he left and she had told me she had seen him in the infirmary. She told me had stayed for a couple of days due to a minor injury in the leg and later he was released. I grew very happy to know my husband was ok and she had been able to get the camp he was staying. Tears of joy filled my eyes knowing that I will be able to finally see him once again. I pray for a quick and healthy recovery so I can see him as soon as possible.
