June 28, 1863
They had lead our troops north, heading toward what seems to be Gettysburg in order to block confederate troops from reaching Washington and Baltimore. I have finally been released out of the infirmary and I feel much better now. My wounds are nearly healed; I can go about daily routines as I once had before. I have asked around and only a couple of soldiers have told me my husband’s regimen is in a different location waiting to arrive within a week or two. This fills me with joy, yet I need to pray that I say alive long enough. The soldiers here live in fear constantly contemplating when death shall come for them, now I can understand what this fear within them is.
Today I spoke to the new union General, He was called George Gordon Meade, He has been well received by other soldiers, it seems to me that he is someone who can lead us to victory. Later that day he had called for the soldiers to meet with him in order to talk on surrounding issues that are starting to arise. The General informed us that the confederate forces have been spotted in town surrounding Gettysburg. He ordered for soldiers to start preparing for a battle. Hearing this has made my heart pause. The fear I have now is coming slowly creeping through my body as if I have a disease. I am fearful for myself and many of these soldiers who will fight along by my side.
