I've always wanted to experience snow. The slow descent the flakes make as they near the ground fascinated me. And it wasn't long until I did eventually feel what snow feels like. It felt cold to the touch, but slowly disappeared as it interacted with the heat of my skin.

The scenery in front of me could be taken directly out from a book. Mothers and fathers along with their children skating along the ice with couples arm in arm. The so called "jolly spirit" was in the air.

Bare trees that had accumulated snow showed their spirit through the lights tied to each branch. The piles of snow left young teenagers to tussle in them.

"Ahh..." A cool mist let out as I exhaled. The cloud could be seen until it eventually dissipated into the air.

"Come on, mama! Let's go play in the snow!" A child yelled out to his mother, draped in warm clothes to protect her from the freezing temperature. Her joyful smile evident as she took her young one's hand to play in the snow that crunched under their feet.

'Mama'

"Mother..." those words unconsciously slipped out of my mouth, induced by the child earlier.

I wonder what it would be like to spend time on such a special day with someone. Christmas wasn't a holiday celebrated by all, as it is most commonly known as Jesus's birthday, but the world itself commonly celebrates the holiday with or without religion involved. Christianity itself was one of the most followed religions, with Jesus even dying by the hands of the Roman Empire who had once hated Christianity, to the religion assimilating into the empire itself. Much like how the Mongols assimilated into the Arabic State when their large empire took over the vast majority of Asia and became the largest land empire in existence. It was because of the practices of the Muslims that appealed to the Mongols that they followed Islamic culture and even married into the world unlike in China and Russia where Russia was indirectly ruled since the land was useless to the Mongols and the hatred towards the Chinese took a turn for the worst. There were various reasons for these things, but the reason why the Mongols never forced their one religion onto others was because their religion had to due with their homeland and could effectively not enforce it.

Religion had a large impact on many states within Eurasia and became one of the leading factors in the development of the empires like the British and Spanish who had taken over the Americas.

I myself don't follow a religion. Buddhism and Shinto are quite popular in Japan, but I myself don't follow their practices. Just like the ideology of Christmas. Today is a special day as it was December 24th, Christmas Eve. The holiday itself doesn't mean anything to me. I don't have anyone special to celebrate it with nor do I find any value in the day. It's just another date on the calendar.

"I wonder, will I ever get to experience such a thing?"

Perhaps not. It doesn't matter.

My family is away as of now, which means I'm alone for the rest of the week. They had initially invited me, but I didn't want to intrude into their personal space.
