NAME: Nina
First argument as a couple
Your POV:
Me and Jessie, who plays for Portland Thorns have been dating for 8 months. I still live in London as I play for Chelsea and I don't have plans to leave. It's hard but we're handling it. It's tough cause of the time difference and how we have to make sure we have time to call or text.
Since her season ended, she went to Canada to visit family and is coming to London to celebrate Christmas and New Years with me. I can't wait but lately it's been weird. I'm focused on the league, being there for the girls and family. I've missed a few phone calls from Jessie but it's fine. I text her.
Jessie will be here today and Niamh is heading up to Liverpool tomorrow. "So, you excited for Jess coming home?" asked Niamh. "I am, I've missed her" I said. Niamh smiles and then soon I hear the door open. I see Jessie walk in and she smiles. We share a hug and then she goes to hug Niamh.
We talk for a bit before she goes to get ready. She is acting a bit weird but I brush it aside due to the fact she travelled all the way here. We had to our favourite restaurant and we enjoy the night. Once we go home, we relax. We go to bed and Jessie rolls over to sleep. I sigh and rub my face.
NEXT DAY
Niamh leaves at 9am and then I clean up. Jessie walks in and makes toast. "Jess, your not yourself" I said. "I am. Just travelling took it out of me" said Jessie. I nod.
"Nina..... why do you only text me sometimes? I mean you've stopped ringing me and if I ring you, you don't answer" said Jessie. "I get busy, you know" I said. "I make time for your phone calls" said Jessie. "I was busy with football, the girls and my family. I haven't had the time" I said. "Nina for this to work, we have to communicate and I feel like your not on the same page" said Jessie.
"Oh Jessie please, I have a life here and I get busy" I said. "Nina, we're dating 8 months and I know it's hard that I am in Portland and you here, but for us to work long term we have to talk" said Jessie.
"And we do. I text you, don't I?" I said. "Yeah but that's not enough! I want to hear your voice!" said Jessie. "Yeah well sometimes I am tired and don't want to speak to you! Jesus Christ your clingy" I said, rolling my eyes. "Seriously? Wanting to speak to my girlfriend is clingy? If you think I'm clingy I'm gonna go" said Jessie, walking out.
I hear her moving around and then the front door slamming shut. I groan and hit my head. Fuck what did I do? But I'm not wrong. I get dressed and head to see Aggie as planned. I see her sitting at a table. I go order a coffee and then join her.
"Hey. Where's Jessie?" asked Aggie. "We had a fight, she got annoyed coz I missed a few phone calls cause I am busy and well, she can't handle being called clingy" I said. "Uhh.... and you think your right?" asked Aggie. I nod. "Yeah" I said. "Nina.... I don't think your in the right" said Aggie. "What do you mean?" I ask. "Your doing long distance and hearing each others voice can comfort someone" said Aggie. "But if I am busy I can't answer." I said. "Yeah but that's when you make plans..... I mean, it won't work if your barely talking over the phone" said Aggie.
I sigh and look down. "Maybe calling her clingy was wrong and maybe I should have made better plans to add phone calls to Jessie in. I guess I was too self absorbed" I said, looking down. "Well, you just have to find her and say sorry" said Aggie. "I don't even know where she went" I said, looking at my fingers.
Aggie pulls her phone out and types. "Ok, Niamh said she's on the train up to Liverpool" said Aggie. "Oh" I said. "Go. Drive up and do it." said Aggie. "I will. Sorry to cut this short" I said. "GO!" said Aggie. I leave and head home. I pack a bag and put in the car.
I begin the journey up and Niamh texts me she's just arrived and picked her up. I send back ok and that I'll be there soon.
Once I arrive, I park and sigh. I get out and head to the door. I know and Tom, Niamh's brother opens the door. "Niamh told us you'd be arriving. Jessie is in Niamh's room waiting for Niamh" said Tom. I thank him and Niamh steps out of the kitchen. "She's in my room. Here's two hot chocolates. Off you go" said Niamh, handing me the cups. I head upstairs and knock with my foot.
"It's your room, Niamh" said Jessie. I step in and she rolls her eyes. "What do you want?" asked Jessie. I hand her the hot chocolate and I sit on the chair. "I wanted to say sorry for the fight. I was in the wrong and I should have done better. I realise now that when I am busy to make sure I have time to call you and talk" I said. "That's all I want" said Jessie.
"I am sorry for calling you clingy. I should have done better and I will from here on out. Let's plan phone calls, have facetime dates, the whole lot. I don't want to lose you cause I am a bitch" I said. Jessie places her cup down and comes to me. She takes the top out of my hand and sits on my lap.
"I love you, Nina. I forgive you. Our first fight" said Jessie, kissing my cheek. "I love you, Jess. Well hopefully we have no more fights" I said. "Nah, we'll fight again but as long as we forgive each other, we'll be fine" said Jessie, kissing me. I kiss back and we go down for dinner.
