We are in the catacombs. We. Me, my tar friend and Niccòlo. And the younger version of me. I watch my fourteen years old self and sixteen years old him running through the stony, cold corridors hand in hand. I run after them, hand in hand with my tar friend.
,,Nico, I'm scared." I hear my own, younger voice. Trembling, swallowed by fear. My version of myself is dressed in hospital shirt, barefoot. He as well. He glances at the girl next to him. He looks younger, more frightened. The scar on his cheek is more visible than in reality, fresher.
,,Me too. But we can do this." He says smiling slightly.
Im out of breath until those two finally stop. They slide down the wall and me and my tar friend do the same under the opposite wall. We watch something that is a projection of my own mind. Maybe a dream. Maybe memory. Maybe both. My young self rests her head on his shoulder. He hugs her tightly. She cries. Cries with her face buried in his shirt.
,,He's dead isn't he?" She asks through the tears, muffed by the fabric and fear. And emotions. I felt that time.
,,Yes." Niccòlo says catching her pale hand. He looks like he's on the edge of breaking down. Her, my body starts shaking uncontrollably, so much she seems like she's about to fall into pieces. He notices that. He always does. He forces their bodies to lay on the cold floor. She cried unstoppably, choking with her tears. And he hugs her tightly, buries his face in her hair. He holds her hands as she cries. He's there for her. Always. Unconditionally.
,,I love you Eden." He whispers after a while. But she didn't hear him. She fell asleep in his embrace, in his arms, under his beating heart.
Only then I realise I, my real form, not a projection, started crying too. As the tear splashes over my hand intertwined with my tar's friend hand I realise it's hand isn't covered by tar anymore. Its, his body isn't undercover anymore. I travel with my eyes through his body, dressed in our mission suit. His calfs ripped to the flesh, his white tank dirty and splattered with blood. He sits next to me, hands and should interlinked. As I look into his black eyes he smiles to me. Sadly, but honestly. No tar, no illusions. Just the tow of us. In front of the other two of us.
,,It was you the whole time." I whisper through the tight from emotions throat. He nods. One thing didn't change. He doesn't talk.
,,They wasn't dreams. They were memories." Another statement he sums with a nod and a sly smile. It was him. He was always there for me. He was the other half of my soul I lost that day. Not Noah, not consciousness, not my life. Him.
