The next morning, all of us woke up, refreshed, and lazily got ready for the job that awaited us at the dining room. After everyone was ready, we went to the dining room at 9:45. Nicholas didn't come to the dining room until 10, by which time we were done with breakfast. Breakfast was some fried eggs and more pasta. We had some milkshake, too, since water didn't quench our thirst for taste.

Nicholas finally joined us at the table.

"So, ready for the job?" he asked.

"Yup," I said.

"Awesome. Please come with me."

We followed him out of the dining room. We followed him through several corridors and doors, and finally reached another circular room, almost similar to the one we had first met him. However, this one did have scientists, who roamed about busily, wearing the standard white lab coats.

"So, this is the place?"

"Yeah."

"But this is inside the base. So, shouldn't the outside security take care of incoming zombies? Why place security inside the base?"

"Inside the base? Who said you're going to be placed inside the base?"

"Oh. I thought this place only had one entrance?" said Angela.

"This laboratory is the only other place which has its own door leading outdoors. You'll be placed at this entrance. And, um, you'll be receiving standard-issue weapons. Wait a second; let me get your weapons. Lara, three standard-issues, please!" he shouted.

Lara, a young brunette, half-carried half-dragged the three weapons to us from an inside room.

"Your previous weapons will remain with me until you are off duty," she said.

She took our weapons, put them in a bag and took off.

"These weapons have a primary fire of normal SMG bullets. But they also have a secondary fire of the antidote for the virus. So if you think a zombie is in one piece and might survive the reversal, feel free to inject him. We will be pleased to have another member in our base. To switch between primary fire and secondary fire, use this button," he said, pointing to a button on the weapon, which was currently set to primary fire.

"But remember, the antidote ammo needs to be refilled after every shot. You will be given a crateful of the antidote ammo. To put in an antidote injection, push it in here," he pointed to an opening in the side of the gun. An injection already lay there.

"Alright, now let's get you guys to the place where you will be on duty," Nicholas said.

We followed him without a word, carrying our duty weapons with us. They were slightly heavier than my SMG, but carrying their ammo was easy. The bullets, as Nicholas had said, were that of a normal SMG, and each of us was given 10 magazines of ammo, other than the one already inside the gun.

Nicholas led us outside the building and showed us a tower, where two of us would stand, preferably the better shooters, and one would stand near the doors from which we had come. Nicholas asked us to decide who would stand where.

We, obviously, decided to post Angela at the door, while Carter and I took the tower.

Nicholas finally said his goodbye and went back inside, wishing us luck for our first day.

Nothing special happened all day. If any zombies came around, they were taken care of by the turrets. We just stood there, doing nothing.

"How long do we really have to stand here?" I wondered out loud.

"I don't know. You should have asked Nicholas."

"I hope it's not more than eight hours."

We tried our best to stay alert, but for a few moments we sure did get distracted. Finally, some time before sunset, two guys came in with Nicholas, and Nicholas said we were free to go.

We went in. It was 6 p.m. 8 hours of duty.

"Well, it sure was 8 hours. Seemed like 8 years to me though," I said.

"Yeah, it did," said Angela.

"Not an interesting job, but at least we now have something to do," Carter said.

"Rely on Carter for thinking positive, eh?" I said.

"You bet," he said.

"Let's hope tomorrow's more interesting," I said.
