In seconds, I lost consciousness. For that few seconds, I was able to hear a bomb blast, lots of unidentifiable shouting, and several feet rushing towards me. Just when I was about to faint, I saw Carter look at me, then his eyes widened. I fainted then.
It was like being in a deep, deep sleep, but... Well, I don't know if it has happened to anyone, but sometimes it happens that you wake up, but you don't wake up. I mean, it's like paralysis. You wake up, your brain functions normally, but you can't move. You can't shout. You can't even move your eyes. But that is temporary paralysis. You can get out of it if you give your body a sharp jolt on a count of three. But being zombie is an altogether different story.
It was like I was sleeping, but I was walking. I couldn't feel any outer body movements, and I had no control over them. But I was moving. I was groaning. But it wasn't me – it was the virus. My brain felt pure terror and panic. But soon, I was able to control myself. I entrusted Carter and Angela to get me safely out of this...this state.
All I could hope was that I would survive the reversal. What if one of my body parts had been ripped off? But I just hoped against this.
A lot of time passed. I couldn't count how much, since I didn't have that much control over my brain. I could just think. Nothing else.
Then at last, it happened. I don't know how I knew it had happened. But, for some reason, I just knew that either the gaseous antidote had reached me, or I had been injected.
Describing it as 'waking up with a jolt, feeling like you were choking in your sleep' was not enough. It was much, much more than that.
The reversal was:
1) Very painful
2) Very confusing
3) Very relieving
4) For some strange reason, very infuriating
It was really, really painful. It was like someone was running a miniature grass-cutter all over your skin, then a blade all over your skin, and finally dipping you in icy-cold water.
Also, it was confusing, but that was actually the confusion of the virus, since I temporarily shared my brain with it for a moment, in which it transferred many chemicals of itself into my brain. One of these chemicals was for confusion, I guess. But the part of my brain controlled by me was relieved, since I would finally regain control of my brain. It was infuriating for the virus, and once again, it was the virus which was infuriated, not me. The anger in me died in about 2 seconds.
I breathed fresh air. It was like I had been in an underground tunnel with very little oxygen for a long time, then I was suddenly on the surface, breathing fresh air.
"Hello again, Jason. How you feeling?" Carter's familiar voice greeted me.
"Water," I choked out. My throat felt like it was full of sand.
Angela quickly brought some water. I drank it down in one big gulp.
"Thanks," I said, finally feeling better.
Soon after that, they told me that they'd let me go into San Francisco, and followed me. When I had finally reversed, they had carried me back to centre.
