About a year has passed. Many more buildings have been constructed. Population has multiplied ten-fold. Our base has about 10000 people now. Everyone is happy.
Nicholas and the three of us are now best friends. There's no formality left between us. Nicholas has even started flirting with Angela. Angela doesn't seem to mind it.
We are all sitting on the roof of one of the seven buildings in our complex – me, Angela, Nicholas and Carter. We aren't talking much, since there's nothing left to talk about. And then, the alarm goes off. People are panicking everywhere. Everyone rushes to the assumed safety of the buildings. Outside, the turrets' bullets are heard. Then an announcement makes its way through the speakers:
"All civilians to immediately get inside the buildings and shut all doors and windows. This is not a drill. All security personnel to arm themselves and immediately go to the main gate of the complex. Repeat, this is not a drill. Immediately get inside a nearby building. Security personnel immediately go to the main gate."
All four of us sit up in our chairs, then rush downstairs, grab our weapons, and rush to the main gate, where 1000 people already stand, ready to fight. The main gates are opened. All security rushes out, their footsteps almost shaking the ground.
We reach the front of all the security, since – did I forget to mention that? – we are now heads of security.
The sight in front of us is almost like a repetition of the past. There, right in front of us, are about 10000 zombies, which means that every man must kill about 10 zombies. But how? How are so many zombies here in California again? But there is no time to answer that. We get to the fighting.
Soon, we realize that the zombies aren't dying – they keep getting up again and again and again.
The antidote – it did nothing but make the zombies invulnerable to death. It only helped in reviving a few people – but it didn't kill the zombies.
And now there was no way we could kill them.
There was no end to it. We were destined to die.
