The same routine was followed in Stockton. Jim was an instant hit among security. Everyone would come over and congratulate him, ask him about his life. Soon, we were done launching the missile in Stockton, while Jim stared wide-eyed at its effect on zombies.

We had some problems in leaving Stockton; some scientist got some kind of seizure due to overwork. We had to stay behind at the centre for 2 more hours, while the scientist was taken care of. During this time, we had nothing to do, since there were no more zombies left to kill. So, we decided to drive through the city for some time.

The city was peaceful and quiet. We did not meet any survivors, which was weird. The drive was slightly rough, since a lot of zombies got crunched under our car. But still, for some reason, the sight gave me inner peace. I thought about how many troubles humans had to face just to survive on the planet. There were natural reasons, like disasters, climate and even wildlife. Then there were reasons which were made by man himself, which were so much more in number: pollution, politics, home, poverty and many other things. Why did we have to develop all this? Was a government necessary? Was law necessary? Was transport necessary? Would we have been different if there was a limit to our greed? Would we have been different if we all would have decided one day that, this is it, we don't need to develop no more, and we have enough now?

Was our greed the reason for this destruction? But then, you also have to admit that man's greed led to development too. If man did not have greed, he would still be roaming around naked, eating raw animals, and being food poisoned more often than we check our mobiles today.

So, what is the reason? Why was there suffering? One belief says it's because its suffering that makes a man's life have a point. But does it have to be that way? Can there truly be no 'happily forever after'?

Well, I do not have a satisfactory answer to all these questions. These are questions we have to ask ourselves, not others. A man can gain a satisfactory answer to these questions only from two people – himself and God. The second option might not even be possible, but the first option is completely practical.

Finally, we returned to the launch centre, and we were ready to leave for San Francisco by then. The scientist was now under control, and looked rather happy. Probably he'd been injected with something. Finally, we reached the highway to reach San Francisco. It was a very short drive to San Francisco, hardly took an hour and half.
