Chapter 4 (Emily)
After dinner everyone went upstairs to hang out and have fun like normal kids would.
Derrick and I ended up following Bri, Jeff, and Nick to play Truth or Dare in Bri's room. Bri said they always played after dinner, but this would be the first time that Derrick and I would be playing with them. Jasmine and the other kids went to the computer room to do research for school, and yes the dead still go to school here but it's not normal school. They learn some of what normal humans would, things like English, math or even history, but adding on to that they learn about being a ghost and accepting who they are now, and how not to show themselves to the human world. About this time was when I noticed that Alex was no where to be seen but Bri said not to worry about that because he was never usually seen ever after dinner. She said it would be a miracle if you seen him for an hour out of the day.
In Bri's room we played our game for hours on end, and finally when it was my turn for the seventh time that night I figured out a question I could ask that would answer some if not all of the questions that I wanted to be answered when I first got into this castle that they called my home now.
I was facing Bri when the question had popped up in my head and i knew that I had to ask her and not the others in the room. I don't know what it was but I just had that feeling that she was the right person to ask.
"Bri," I said with a small smile. "Truth or dare?"
"Truth," Bri said, and I mentally screamed.
'Dang it, she had to pick truth.' I said to myself in my head. I couldn't let them hear me say something like that. Then mentally I started to rephrase my question into something that would require a truth or false. Is it true, that I was kidnapped for some horrible reason that everyone knows but just wont tell me?" I asked and as I asked I looked at the others in the room.
Bri had froze and looked around the room at Derrick, Nick, and Jeff who stared back at her with answers in their eyes telling her that she should lie about the whole situation.
Slightly I could see Bri nod as if agreeing with them and their silent chat, then she faced me against before saying, "No."
A simple word that could mean anything, but if I hadn't been so dumb to realize that they were lying to me I would have left it at that but I wasn't stupid I knew just what was happening and would continue to go on with my questions until I got what I was looking for. But instead of arguing with them I just nodded to make it seem like I wasn't'going to go any further with the questions that were still pounding in my head as if to tell me they wanted out and to find all answers.
They fell for it and continued on with the game as if nothing was wrong.
The next person after me was Derrick who got Jeff to say dare then dared him to lick the garbage in the garbage can. And let me tell you this, the garbage in the can was not from to nights dinner but it was from three weeks ago. No one had taken that garbage out since I had gotten here. It was as if they had all gotten lazy and were waiting on something to happen, something that I had no idea on.
Jeff ended up refusing the dare and had to miss a turn.
After Derrick was Bri, who asked me and I said dare like I had the last four times I was asked.
"I dare you to yell in the hallway loud enough that everyone can hear and say that 'Alex is a no good wanna-be evil, duck sucking turd.' At first I thought this was just one of a childs play dare, but soon I realized that it wasn't not. Everyone in the room had froze and looked at me to see if I really would do the dare, if I really had the courage to do what she had said.
