Chapter 13 (Emily)
As I slept I dreamt. It wasn't really a dream, but then again it was.
I seen a young man a few years older them I am now, maybe nineteen. I was first able to watch him draw then it was like I was the person drawing the picture. The young man was working on something but I was not sure what it really was. It looked familiar, or rather the place he was drawing looked familiar.
It was a forest. Not just any forest though, the forest near this house, this nightmare of a place.
Looking back to the picture I looked first on the outside of the drawing to all the trees. There were tons of them, big and small, round and wavey. It was all over the place.
I seen some of the trees twisted to the left to form spirals going up, others went right going down into the ground as if they were vines. They looked amazing. But what really was amazing was the center of the whole drawing.
This is the part that had me most mesmerized. The door way in the middle of the picture. It looked like the vines and trees had formed it. It had intricate designs and swirls and loops. Many formed around one another making each group of vines form a perfect arch.
Inside the door way there was a man. He was walking the opposite direction as if he was leaving. He was wearing black, and you couldn't even see his hair or and reflection of his face from the full moon above. It really tied the whole picture together.
As I watched I started to think that who ever was actually drawing the picture was an amazing artist, he made it look like you were actually there watching this person walk away.
And as you watched the person it was like he really was walking away. His body was moving further and further into the forest with the arch doorway closing slowly after him. It was amazing.
Sometime at about four A.m I woke up. I was still thinking about the dream I had when I went to get a drink. I noticed then that Alex was in the kitchin, and I panicked.
'What if he tried something?' I thought as I slowly walked in. Alex didn't even notice me walk in until I had opened the fridge door taking out a small coke.
"Hello" Alex said, with a small smile.
I froze as I opened my can of soda. I didn't want to speak at first but finally gave in. "H-hello," I stuttered.
"How was your night?" He asked.
"It was okay," I said, "Just long and woke up randomly needing a drink. How was you're night?"
"My night was okay, though I couldn't sleep all." He said, and slowly he got off the chair he was sitting in.
"Oh that sucks, sorry to hear that." I said slowly my breath catching in the end. I was already starting to have fear.
"Yea," Alex said, then he got quiet for a few minutes before speaking again, "I have been thinking, that maybe giving the kids some time outside is a good idea."
I turned around to look at him and smiled, "Already giving into your weakness?"
He laughed, "No."
"Really now?" I asked, "Then what is it?"
"I just thought that maybe you were right, they do need some time outside." Alex said.
I nodded not believing him. "Okay sure."
"I'm serious."
I smiled again, "Okay."
We just stared at one another then before Alex finally spoke, "Look, I know you don't believe me or anything but I do mean what I said. I want to give them time outside each day because of you. I don't know what it is but that is how I feel."
"Okay," I said, "Then tomorrow they can go outside?"
"Yes."
"Good. Tell them that tomorrow. And I'm gonna go to bed, maybe try and get some more sleep."
"Okay, night then."
"Night," Then I walked away back to my room. I was thinking about Alex along the way, not sure if I could really believe him or if he was just saying that to take it away later and start problems.
When I finally fell asleep I began to dream about the young man and the picture he had made again. It was five a.m. at this time, and I finally was able to sleep the rest of the night.
. . . (Cody)
It was after I had finished drawing the picture that I noticed someone was watching me. Not watching me as in there in the same room as me, but watching me as in they were in my head looking at what I was drawing. It felt weird but for some reason it also felt right, they felt right. The person I mean. Who ever it was felt so right to me, like meeting them here, having them watch me now, drawing was going to change my life and their life. I didn't know if it was a good thing but I it was something. And whatever it was my mind mind was trying to tell me through them watching what I was actually doing.
I didn't understand it though, I just knew that who ever it was that was watching me had felt as if they knew the place I was drawing, the place where Alex had dissapeared into the forest that one night.
I never tried to remember much about that night it felt like a dream really. The sky was dark and the moon was up. The air felt weird around me as if something was going to go wrong at any minute but I just didn't know what it was.
I did remember though that I had noticed him along one of the sidewalks but this time he was alone. At first I didn't know what he was doing it was kind of odd really seeing him out at night without anyone near him but soon it didn't feel so odd it just felt normal.
I had followed him outside and watched him walk slowly along the road and soon he landed infront of a forest not to far from where I lived. For a little while he just stood there as if watching for something to pop out. By this time I was hidden behind a small building about two blocks from where he stood facing the trees.
I watched him, wondering what he would do, and that is when I seen it.
The trees were moving away seperating into a arch that could fit one person. The ouside of the arch was made by many vines forming different designs and they all looked amazing. I drew them in my picture, but they still did not look as good as those I had seen. They still looked like they were missing something but I ignored it and watched the man. Slowly the man, Alex, walked into the opening and started to walk away.
I watched him not sure what to do, but soon my answers were made for me, because the door to the woods were closing in. You could see that as he walked further and further away the trees around grew closer and closer closing in behind him with no way to know where he had gone. He just dissapeared. And even after he was gone I just watched the trees expecting him to show up once more but he never did.
Finally at about 9 p.m I went home only to draw what I had seen and that is when I felt someone was watching me inside my head.
At about 10 p.m I went to bed but not before I put the picture up in a safe place where I could look at it later because I knew that I would need to look at it. Maybe I could get the person to come back and see what they know about the picture through their feelings.
