Chapter 17 (Emily)
It was getting closer and closer to the month of my birthday, and the month I had first been taken. Almost one year in this nightmare. Everything was starting to be understood. I feared Alex like everyone else in this place. Bri, Derrick, Zoey, Jason, Nick, and Jeff and many of the other kids and adults like Mike, Amy, Judiath, Jasmine and her twin sister were my friends, my best friends more like. Amy and I followed Angel with the other kids that were my friends and Angel was my grandmother. People like Alex and Evil I hated, they were my enemies.
Bri and I heard them talk a few times at night, but we never could go face to face with them. I think it had to do with the fact that we were afraid of them. I knew I was, and just looking into Bri's eyes I knew that she was terrified of them.
I had been working for Alex for what seemed like years but was really only a few months. At night I would sleep in Bri's room like I had been for weeks, during the day I would work alone, but I would never work in Alex's room. I always refused to go in his room alone. Usually I brought Bri and Jason with me, they would help me clean and would keep Alex away from me.
I noticed at times that Alex would glare at them, and would stare at me for hours while we cleaned. Sometimes I brought Derrick as well, but would never bring the younger kids.
It was about ten a.m. when Amy called us down for breakfast. She said that after breakfast we would be allowed to go outside, and somehow she convinced Alex to allow me to go out as well. I asked her how she did but she never answered me. She just went to get all the other kids.
After breakfast we went outside, and everyone began to play. Alex had put a few swingsets in the yard and a few slides for the younger kids. Everyone loved them. He even made some kind of schedule about what times during the day we were allowed to be outside, and what times we had to stay in.
We even had to start school again. It sucked. Amy was our teacher most of the time, she would teach us math, and English, and even History. Then she would give us homework for the day and we would have to hand it in by the next day. Jason would help her as well, he would be like the assistant for the class.
After school I would have to clean. Alex gave me a whole list of things for me to do after school. I'd have to clean everything at times, and he would even make me help build more rooms in the house.
By week three I had three rooms done for the younger newer kids in the house. A few ended up moving into the rooms and said that they liked them. They roomed with some of the kids as well. Judiath ended up rooming in with some of the girls that were seven years old. They were nice to her and I was glad about that.
Mike went to one of the rooms with Jason, and together they made the place their new home. They liked that I had made one of the rooms bigger then the others and had picked that one the minute I told them it was done.
