Chapter 11

"I'll get it," Michael smiles, as he jogs down the stairs and I quickly check through the window to find Ruby is no longer there.

I run my fingers through my hair, before sprinting down the stairs.

"Ana!" My mother and Aunty Jess greet Michael and I, and they are completely intoxicated. I look at Michael and laugh, as we guide them upstairs to bed. The smell of fruity alcohol looms off their lips, and perfume emitting off their tangled hair, as they lay there so hammered in their apparent youth.

After eating our Chinese and watching some Netflix, Michael is first to fall asleep in my bed. Of course, I can't wake him up and kick him out, I'm going to have to sleep on the sofa. But, it is ridiculously cold downstairs, and i may have an irrational fear of walking downstairs in pitch black. I sigh, angry, as I pull the covers over us both. To my surprise, Michael turns, and wraps his soft arms around me tightly, as if terrified of letting me go.

I smile, flickering on my phone.

Ruby: so, you're a virgin, but a slut who leads on boys?

Me: Michael, is the first person I've kissed since nursery. I don't quite like your judgements of me. If you don't like me, stop bloody talking to me, Ruby, you presume false shit out of your own jealousy. I like you, I really do as a friend, Christ you saved my life, but I cannot "be" with someone without love or feelings being involved. That is what would make me a slut. I think you're gorgeous, drop dead bloody gorgeous, and before I met you, I was 110% straight. Now I'm very much confused, all because of you, I wish I knew why you make me feel this way. But I don't. Michaels an amazing guy Ruby and you know that. He's everything a girl like me could dream of. I'm sorry. Good night.

I lock my phone, switching aeroplane mode on, as I shut my now wet eyes, concentrating on the beat of michaels soft heart. I hope I'm not making a mistake.
