As promised, there was a car waiting for you as soon as you landed. Jungkook promised someone would be taking care of your luggage and accompanied you to the hospital. As soon as you got there, things worked mechanically. Working yourself though reception, nurses and two doctors, you finally found the room your mother has been stationed to. From what they told you, she stopped responding to her current medication and they started her on a new therapy just before you arrived. It might take a few days to see any improvement, but for now, her body wasn't rejecting it at least.
Just as you were about to enter, Jisung stepped outside.
"I'd suggest you give her a minute", he said with a grimace on his face.
"Why, what happened?"
"The woman might be dying from kidney failure, but she might tear you down with her if you go inside right now. Let's just say she didn't take it well when she found out you got married behind her back. Dad went home to pack her a bag so I had to deal with her alone for the last hour."
Shit.
Jungkook that as his cue and quietly distanced himself from the two of you in order not to eavesdrop in on your conversation.
So you did the best you could: you went inside and told her the truth. By now, the contract confidentiality was just an afterthought, if even.
You were not prepared for the mix of emotions on her face when you finally entered the room. One one hand there was the obvious sickness that was plastered all across her expression, on the other hand, there was something else that was far more than just fatigue. She was exhausted.
You didn't give her any time to jump to even more conclusions and just started rambling and telling her everything. Well, most of it. You told her that those wedding photos weren't actually real and that most of it was staged. That you were offered a contract and that you two had become friends along the way. That there was no need to tell her about it until now because it was all charade.
By the time you finished your story, she had somehow calmed down. At least about that particular topic. You were just about to tell her more when a nurse entered the room and asked you to leave since visiting hours were ending. Though you only got half an hour with her for now, you promised to come back tomorrow and went back to the hall where both Jisung and Jungkook sat on the waiting chairs, coffee cups in their hands and a discussion about the newest movie that they've watched.
Jungkook handed you his cup. "It's still hot."
You nodded and took a few tentative sips, not acknowledging the tension that set in as soon as you were there. But considering the situation, you could handle a little bit of tension.
"I need to go, I have a meeting with my professor this evening for that essay I'm writing and I couldn't reach him earlier to reschedule. See you tomorrow?" Jisung said. Again, you nodded, hugged him goodbye and went separate ways.
There wasn't a lot to talk about, so you just walked alongside Jungkook towards the exit, trying not to think too much about anything. New medication, new therapy, news about her daughter's life. For now, there was nothing you could do. You just had to wait and see what happened.
As soon as you arrived home, you went straight to your room with the intention to lay down for a while before calling Hoseok to update him on everything. You barely registered the suitcase that was waiting at the front door and as soon as your head hit the pillow, you fell asleep for the next few hours.
You woke up sometime in the middle of the night, way too early to decide to stay awake and call it a morning, way too late for anyone else to still be awake. Thirsty and somewhat hungry, you decided to finally leave your room, only to find out that indeed, it was not too late for anyone else to still be awake. You could hear Jungkook's voice from downstairs. A look at your phone revealed that it was two in the morning.
