The next morning, you woke up late and the other side of the bed was empty. By the time you were brushing your teeth, Jungkook returned with a bag of bandages and other stuff for your wound.

You had almost settled into a state of relaxation where you could finally look at things on the bright side.

That state lasted until breakfast.

You knew something wasn't right the moment you saw Jisung's name light up on your screen.

Usually, you would turn the call down and talk to him some other time. But Jisung knew that you weren't in the country, so there must've been a good reason why he was calling. You excused yourself and left the dining hall, promising Jungkook it would only take a minute.

The moment you picked up the call, you had a feeling of what this was about even before Jisung opened his mouth.

"Mom's at the hospital", he said.

You knew this was bound to happen one day or another.

"Is it-" you started asking.

"Yeah. I got tested to see if I qualify as a donor, but the results aren't out yet."

You nodded to yourself in an attempt to keep it together. You knew neither you nor your father qualified as kidney donors, so the probability of Jisung being the right match was low, not to mention risky. Couple that with her neglecting her treatments and jumping higher on the donor list was also not a viable option for her.

"Alright, I'll see how fast I can get there. Is dad with her?"

"They've been at the hospital since sunrise. I'm going there in an hour."

There was nothing more to talk about so you ended the call and headed back. Again, this was a crisis you had enough time to prepare for.

Which was probably the reason why Jungkook was shocked when you announced that your mother was dying of kidney failure in such a calm and collected tone.

"I'm- I'm really sorry", he said.

You couldn't help but shrug. "I'm booking a flight back and going to the room to pack my things. With a little luck I might still get a ticket for this afternoon so I don't have to wait two days."

Jungkook stood up at the same time and followed you out of the dining hall.

"I'm checking us out while you get your things."

You stopped walking. "Checking us out? Listen, there's no need to do that. Plus, that would be a waste, leaving two days early."

"That was a statement, not an offer. You go pack your bags, I'll take care of getting to the airport and getting to the hospital as soon as possible, okay?"

You weren't in the mood to argue, so with that, you went your separate ways. Jungkook to the reception and you back to the room.

So you booked two tickets for the same day, shoved your clothes into your suitcase and changed into the first change of clothes you got your hands on, a pair of shorts that were just above your knees among them.

Just as you were about to leave the room, Jungkook came back.

"Car's waiting downstairs. Give me ten minutes and we're ready to go."

You nodded and headed downstairs so you wouldn't have to endure the awkward silence that might arise.

You had just managed to drag your suitcase along when you realized your passport was missing. So you left your suitcase and ran back upstairs. You still had the keycard and barged into the room while Jungkook was halfway done. After grabbing it from the nightstand, you left the room again without a word.

Just as you were at the reception again and mentally checking boxes to see if you missed anything, you didn't even notice the by now familiar face of Kang Dongjun who was conveniently also there. You wanted to take out your phone to call Jisung and ask about the room number when you noticed your pockets were empty. There was no phone to be found.

No phone, no tickets.

No phone, no way to reach Jisung.

No phone, no last photos of your mother in case anything happened during the flight back.

You couldn't help tears of frustration forming in your eyes. Just as you were about to run back one last time, Jungkook was just coming in your direction, luggage in one hand and your phone in the other.

You exchanged it for the keycard and waited while he talked to the receptionist. When he came back and when you were sure there wasn't anything else important that you forgot in the room, you finally headed to the airport.

Though you were way too early for your flight, you couldn't help but pace around the waiting hall. Jungkook at least was silent and wasn't trying to get you to talk.

Counting down the minutes until your flight departed, you pushed aside the realization that you were also counting down the minutes until Jungkook's and your marriage was officially ending.
