I opened up my laptop and searched for wedding dresses. I had always imagined what my dream wedding would be like. It would be in a beautiful church, with only close family and friends. The party would last all night. My bridesmaids would wear periwinkle colored dresses, with a bouquet full of lilies and baby's breath wrapped with a black silk ribbon. The groomsmen would wear suits with periwinkle blue bowties, a lily in each of their lapels. I would carry a bouquet of roses, lilies and baby's breath, wrapped with a black silk ribbon like my bridesmaids. Sean agreed with most of the things I came up with, except for the periwinkle blue color. We argued about it for awhile, and finally agreed on Kelly green, the color of the Irish hills. He also said that roses were a little cliche. So we kept the lilies and baby's breath, but dropped the roses and switched them out for daisies. "Have you seriously been planning this your whole life" he asked me one night. I nodded. "Dreaming is more like it. I never thought I would find a boyfriend, let alone marry him. So when I met you and you asked me to be your girlfriend, I was ecstatic". He laughed and leaned over the table to kiss me. I scrolled through the millions of dresses for sale until I saw one that was perfect. It was a white dress with a sweetheart neckline, and lace wrapped around the entire gown. It also had little white beads sewn on. I wrote the store down, printed the image of the dress and closed the computer. It was only noon, so I grabbed my sheet of paper and my purse. "Sean I'm going out to pick out my wedding dress! I'll be back before four". "Alright sweetheart". I got into my new car that I bought and drove to the store in downtown Dublin. After searching through the hundreds of plastic covers, I found the dress that I wanted. And it was in my size. I paid for it and got back in my car. After an hour, our neighborhood started to appear. I grabbed the plastic bag after I had parked my car and walked inside. I silently, or as silently as you can get with a plastic dress cover in my arms, walked up to my room. Sean had already picked out his tux a week ago. I hung up the dress in my closet and flopped down onto my bed. 5 minutes later, I grabbed the book I was reading and went downstairs and sat down on the couch that was placed under the huge bay window in our living room. Before I opened the book, I looked across the street to the house I suffered in for almost two weeks. My dad never moved out, and he doesn't know about my engagement. Since I moved out, I've separated myself from him and my old life. But, I've got to tell him sometime. I put my book down and slipped on my high tops. "Sean. Do you want to come with me to tell my dad about us". "Why are you screaming? I'm right here" Sean said coming up from behind me. I jumped and put a hand over my heart. "You scared me. Are you coming". "Yeah. Might as well. I don't want him to hurt you". He slipped his shoes on and walked out the door, my hand in his. I took a deep breath and knocked on the door. Before I could knock a third time, the door opened. "Oh. It's you". "Yeah it's me. I wanted to share some news with you". "I could care less". He started to shut the door, but I slammed my hand into it. "Would you care if I said I was engaged". "What man would want to marry you. You're not loved by anyone". A tear rolled down my face. If Mom were still alive, she would be freaking out, helping me with the dress, the centerpieces, the bouquets, everything. But Dad doesn't care. "That would be me sir" Sean said, clearly annoyed. "Oh Jack. I didn't see you there". "I wonder why. Your only job in this life is to hurt other people. I thought you would enjoy seeing your little girl all grown up, with a man who loves her. I guess not. Come on Shelby. Let's go". "Wait. Can I talk to Shelby. Alone". "Are you going to hurt her". He shook his head. I patted Sean's shoulder and told him to go home. He nodded and walked across the street.
