Daddy had been drinking again. He drunk a lot. I was sitting down playing with my barbie dolls Mama had gotten me for my birthday. He grabbed me by my shirt and hit me in my face over and over. I cried as he dragged me out of the house throwing me on the concrete porch and slammed the door leaving me outside. I didn't know what I did wrong. I yelled for Mama, but she wasn't there.
" Aye' ma'! " I heard a man call out to me. I looked at him and looked at my feet. He had saw the whole thing. He walked up our small driveway and picked me up. He was much older than me. I was only 11 and he looked like he was in his early 20's or atleast 17. He picked me up and let me cry into his shirt as he rubbed my back in circles telling me everything was okay. I peaked up from his neck and looked back at mama's house. We were leaving away from it. We were crossing the street and I put my head back into the man's neck. We came to a stop and we were at the house across the street.
" Is it aight' if I take ya' in an' clean ya' up lil mama' ? " he asked me in my ear. I shook my head yes still with my face in his neck. He took a step in the house and sat me on his counter.
" Imma' go get da' first aid. " he told me. " don't move. " he said and I shook my head yes. Within a few minutes he was back down with the first aid kit. I was still in tears and he got the stuff out. He had a cotton ball, alcohol, peroxide, and band-aids. He smiled at me and told me I was okay. He took the cotton ball and put alcohol on it and put it on my face where I had a few cuts. He did the same with my knees and elbows. He put a big bandage on my knees and a small one my cheek. He put his first aid back up and looked at me.
" Ya' feel okay mama? " he asked me. I shook my head saying I was okay.
" What's ya' name lil' mama? " he asked me.
I looked at him and starred at him.
" Arabella " I told him.
" Call me Mel "
