My choice

Part 15

I finished my dinner slowly enjoying the great food. My family left before desert, wanting an early night. Most of the boy left after one round of desert but me I stayed for two. I was finishing my desert when I realised that the only people left in the dinning room were me Zach and Niall. Niall left soon and only me and Zach remained. I got up after finishing and walked to the door.
As soon as I got to the door Zach called after me,
"Zoe Marie" he called. I turned to see him jogging up to me. I waited for him to reach me.
"Well I thought it's been a few day since we saw each other." I nodded in agreement. " so I was thinking how about a walk in the gardens?" I was taken a back by the offer and almost perplexed about this sudden invite but i still agreed not wanting him to think that i was not interested in him or anything else.
We walked in silence until we reached a the garden door where the a guard opened the doors for us.
"So Zach how have you been?" I asked breaking the silence.
"I've been great. It's been nice to be living in the palace. Everything is done to perfection I get so much respect for just being selected it's truly amazing."
In that moment I saw a part of Zach I had never seen before. He was happy, in bliss and most of all he was naive. I liked this side of him it was different calm and relaxed.
"Any way how have you been Zoe Marie? Heard you've been quite busy with Spanish?"
The normal cheeky Zach returned and I  couldn't help smiling. We was a bench and sat down, the moon was bright and beautiful its refection upon the pond, two swans swam by and in that moment everything was perfect.
" I've been good but busy. This treaty is very important without it we could end up at war. Things are going to get crazy once the Spanish arrive."
"Well good luck for then" he said while chuckling.

I wrapped my arms around hims muscular arms and rested my head on his shoulder. we looked out into the stars, then i spoke the urge to get to know Zach was killing me. 'Zach tell me about your life before the selection, about school about your friends.'

'I went to high school and was finishing off this new education system that your father has put in place. my favorite subject is drama you know' he chucked again making my heart melt. 'I play a part in the school play every year,as one of the main characters. This year we did Romeo and Juliet.' i closed my eyes imagining Zach playing a helpless romantic 'I was Romeo, i love acting you know, you've got the whole audience looking at you hoping you'll make a certain move, they watch with admiration with love and trust. in that spot light I'm not Zachary Goode I'm someone else, I'm anyone I want to be.'

For once Zach was weak, insecure and wishful. he wasn't the hottie that everyone wanted to date but a boy who loved the stage. he rested his head on mine and we sat there while he hummed a beautiful tune. I felt secure,  calm I didn't know if it was the moon light or if it was Zach but i felt like a normal girl. with no responsibilities, just a girl out on a date.

All of a sudden I heard running. I grabbed Zach by the shoulder and dropped to the ground.
"Oi what was that for" he screeched
I signaled for him to keep quite. The rebels hadn't attacked in a while but now would be ideal for them with the selected in the palace and all the press attention. They could do serious damage and the selected could get hurt or even worse killed. I knew it was a bad idea to leave without guards. I was so stupid.
The sound of foot steps got closer and closer until a face appeared. I jumped onto Zach and pressed my body on to his trying to shield him from any danger.
"Oh" said a strong but surprised voice. I looked up, and there stood Robert.
I jumped of Zach then did I realise that my dress had torn from my hip down and Zach's pants had ripped from the knee downward. To be honest I didn't blame Robert for thinking what he did. Both of mine and Zach's hair was a mess.
"Oh Robert nothing was um happening. But anyway what are you doing out here so late. "
"I go on a run before bed your highness"
"Of course, well it's late I must be off. Thank you boys"
"Zoe Marie allow me to walk you to your room" Zach offered
" no it's ok Zach I'll make my own way thank. And good night to you both."
I walked then turned the corner toward the kitchens when I heard Roberts voice.
"Your playing fast Zachary huh"
I moved closer but didn't let them see me.
"Oh come on Robert let's not be jealous. "
"What was going on Zachary, tell me pretty boy"
"Whatever happens between me and Zoe Marie stay between me and Zoe Marie"
"Oh second base with the name but physical at the last base. How did you get so close to the princess in five days. Tell me Zachary what you playing at"
"I'm playing the same game as you but I'm just better at it"
He chuckled. " any way Robert good night I must go to bed and think all of tonight's happenings over. Because how many can say they walked with the princess in the gardens. Goodnight Robert "
I heard him walk away. I carried on walking towards the kitchen. Thinking what he said over. He didn't tell Robert that what he saw what just us protecting ourselves not dos he say that we did anything in that way but yet he still mad Roberts blood boil.
