Mays POV:
It's been three days since Izzy showed up at our door. I'm only excited because today's Friday so all I have is the weekend until I can go to school and meet Hayes.I guess I'm a little too excited to meet him but hey, I don't have any friends my age right now so I need all that I can get.
I grab a water bottle out of the fridge, and head towards the stairs so go up to my bedroom. I pass Shawn's room on the way and see him laying on his bed reading.
I decide to join him and see what's up. I skip in and put my water on his dresser.
"Hey shawn. Whatcha reading?" I ask and sit on the foot of his bed.
"The Fault in our Stars" he answers without removing his eyes from the page. I begin to feel a little bit jealous of the book. Wait what? It's just a book.
I lay down with my head on his stomach looking up at the ceiling. "Will you read to me?" I ask.
"Of course. What else? She is so beautiful. You don't get tired of looking at her. You never worry if she is smarter than you: You know she is." Shawn stops for a pause and looks down at me. He keeps his eyes locked with mine and begins to quote the book from memory.
"She is funny without ever being mean. I love her. I am so lucky to love her, Van Houten." He sits up and I do too. Our eyes never break contact and I can feel myself being drawn into him.
"You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, old man, but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices. I hope she likes hers." I see Shawn's eyes flick down to my lips and back to my eyes. I feel myself slowly lean in and see that Shawn leans in too.
Our lips are just about to touch when the door bursts open. I lean back abruptly at the same time as Shawn.
"Shawn can you-" Carter cuts himself off. "Am I interrupting something?"
"No. No, you're good." I say and sit back on my butt. I grab my water bottle and take a swig.
I notice that when I said no, Shawn's face sunk a little. Does he like me back?
"Yeah right. Anyways, Shawn can you help me take in the garbage cans?" Carter asks and Shawn stands up without a word and leaves me alone with Carter.
"May are you sure it was nothing?" Carter asks once again. Was it nothing? I really wanted to kiss him but, what if he didn't feel the same way.
"I wish it was something." I mutter under my breath and push past Carter. I continue my voyage down the long hall to my bedroom.
I walk in and closet door a little harsher than intended. I'm not mad or anything, I just slammed the door.
"May Bathilda Johnson what did I say about slamming doors?!" I hear dad shout from down the hall.
"Oh my god dad. Get off my back sometimes. In my own person!" I shout back over dramatically.
"You're grounded, from slamming doors, for the rest of your life!" Dad barged into my room with a fake angry look on his face. Nash was following right behind him with a camera filming is.
"Oh my god! I hate you!" I shouted in his face finishing off the video. We all laughed and Nash left to film other stuff. Apparently he's vlogging life around the house.
"May, would you ever actually hate me?" Dad asks and slouches down onto my bed. He falls onto his back and let's out a long overdue sigh.
"No. Because I love you. I love you daddy." I say and lay down next to him. I grab his hand and intertwine our fingers.
Dad raises our hands up above us and starts playing with my fingers.
"I love you too May." He continues to play with my little fingers until our moment is rudely interrupted.
"SHAWN TRIED TO KISS MAY! SHAWN TRIED TO KISS MAY!" Someone shouts from the hall. I think it's Cam. He bangs on every door as he runs shouting "SHAWN TRIED TO KISS MAY!"
Dad looks at me with big eyes. We have about a one second staring battle before I jump off the bed and race across the room. I swipe the key to my balcony and run out onto it. I lock myself out there.
Dad follows me over to the doors and unlocks it from the inside. We go back and for for a minute locking and unlocking the door. I can hear a barely audible "SHAWN TRIED TO KISS MAY!" still, through the closed doors.
I lock the door one last time and take the key out, with no key in the door, dad has to crank the handle to unlock it.
I bold to the left and jump over the railing to Taylor's balcony then again to Matts before dad gets outside.
I run through Matts room and lock open the door. I run straight into Shawn who pushed me back into the room and locks the door. I then lock the balcony door, and close the blinds.
"May I'm so sorry about earlier I didn't-" Shawn started but I quickly cut him off.
"Shut up and kiss me." I walked up to him and smashed my lips into his. I'm surprised by my new confidence, but I never want it to go away.
Shawn's surprised at first, but quickly wraps his arms around my waist and kisses back. We stay this way for a few more seconds before someone bangs on the door.
"May Bathilda Johnson open this door immediately! And someone find Shawn so he can explain to me exactly what's going on!" Dad shouts. Shawn's eyes light up in fear and he pulls me into Matts bathroom. I get in the cabinet under the sink while Shawn hides in the bottom of the bathtub.
"Shawn do guys shave their legs?" I ask. I saw a razor down here so I just started thinking.
"No, but you're really random did you know that?" He laughs a little and I can't help but chuckle to myself.
"Well random is my middle name. Actually, it's Bathilda but thats besides the point." I explain. This is awkward.
"Mines Peter." Shawn says from the tub.
"Finnegan. Now would you two please come out here." A voice says from the doorway.
"Jack?!" I ask in disbelief. I push open the cabinet doors to see Jack standing in the open doorway.
"How the hell-"
"I have my ways." Jack leads us out of the bathroom and into the bedroom. He then unlocks the bedroom door and the three of us face seven faces, each containing a different emotion.
"I can explain."
