Mays POV:

I woke up to the sun streaming through the curtains and birds chirping like crazy. I roll over to check the time but end up smacking into Shawn. Realizing that I wasn't alone, I sat bolt upright to examen my surroundings.

I must have fallen asleep in Shawn's room last night when he was reading to me. I check the clock to see that it's already seven o'clock and I'm going to be late for school.

I run out of the room as quickly and quietly as possible and slip into my room throwing on a pair of athletic shorts and an old sweatshirt. Tying my hair in a ponytail, I run downstairs and grab an apple on my way out the door.

Running around the corner I just barely make it to the bus on time. I plop down in a seat next to Hayes who unplugs his earbuds to talk to me.

"Hey I was beginning to worry that you weren't coming. I didn't see you at all this morning. " Hayes explains and waits for an answer.

"Yeah well I slept late but you know what would have been nice? You waking me up so I didn't have to run." I sass and take a bite of my juicy red apple

"Maybe you should have set an alarm."

The rest of the ride was silent until we pulled up to the high school and all of the students spilled out onto the sidewalk postponing their own arrival to first period.

I arrive to English and sit down opening my copy of Romeo and Juliette. I'm following along with the teacher reading but before I know it I've dazed off into my own world.

*"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other word would smell as sweet." I say leaning out over my balcony as Shawn joins me and wraps his arms around me.
"But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and May is the sun."
May
May
May*

"May Johnson are you with us?" My teacher slams her copy of the sonnet down on her desk and I'm startled out of my fantasy.

"Yes Ma'am" I reply and go back to focusing on my copy with my head down and hood up trying to avoid as much eyesight as possible.

I rush my way through the rest of my terrible high school life and run out to meet Hayes on the bus as soon as it's over. Unfortunately I am forced to sit alone because Hayes has decided to go A-wall.

Jack J: POV

May just arrived home from school and the guy and I have a huge surprise for her. We're going on tour and we're allowed to each bring one person of our choice mine being may of course.
It's a short tour and it lines up with her winter holiday break so she would only miss one week of school.

"Hey May will you turn on cartoons?" Matt asks from the other couch.

"Yeah sure what channel?" May asks grabbing the remote from the arm of her chair.

"I don't know just search it up on guide."

I watch May as she squints at the TV and points the remote at the TV choosing a channel that isn't even close to cartoons.

I grab and sharpe and a piece of paper and write a few letters on it and hold it up in front of May.

"Hey can you read this?" I ask and point to the first letter.

"Yeah it's an A."

"Okay what about the rest?"

"Well I think that's an O then maybe P? No is it an F?" She's really struggling to read the letters and I think she should see an eye doctor.

"No that's wrong. I'm gonna make you an appointment to go to a doctor to get your eyesight checked out." I tell her and grab my phone to begin the search for a good one.

"No I'm fine. No one can read that. It's tiny." She tried to reason with me but I'm not buying it.

"Hey Matt can you read these letters?" I hold it up for him to see and he glances up at them.

"Sure bro. A Q R T S P N. easy give me something harder."

"No. May you're going to the eye doctor I'm sorry but I want you to be able to see things when you come on our next tour." I wait for her reaction and she's speechless.

"Im going on your next tour with you?! Thank you thank you thank you! Thank you so much it will be so much fun and I promise to be good." May turns on her heels and runs upstairs to begin packing even though we won't be leaving for another two and a half weeks.

We turn our attention to the TV and start watching the news which may had accidentally turned on.

"Coming next we tell the story of a mysterious body found on the bottom of Cross Lake and the identity of this missing person." The women shares and then it cute to break. I decide this might be a little too graphic for us to watch so I suggest we do something else but May insists on watching the story.

"Found dead at the bottom of the lake not even 24 hours after he was reported missing, 36 year old Mark Reed. They have been unable to contact his family or friends at the time. If you know this man please call your local police department."

I click the television off and all eyes are on May. She's staring blankly at the screen, even now that it's gone black, completely still. I slowly make my way over to her and start to rub her back waiting for the breakdown. It never comes.

"So what's for dinner?" May asks in voice so monotoned that it's scary.

"Umm tacos?" I suggest and she nods before standing and walking up to her room. The tension in the room is thick it feels like no one wants to say anything so we just leave it at that until dinner.

Mays POV

After returning to my room I don't feel very hungry so I decide to skip dinner. Tacos aren't my favorite anyways and the guys will probably just go to Taco Bell.

I can't believe Mark is dead. It feels like I just met him. I guess I did just meet him two weeks ago. It still feels so surreal to me that right when things might be fixed and I might finally get some answers another road block is thrown in my way.

"Knock knock." Shawn pokes his head in the room and gives me a small smile.

"How you doin?" He asks and sit on the foot of the bed watching me closely as I gently spin around on my desk chair.

"I'm fine. Dad finally said we can date by the way." I figure avoiding the whole mark conversation is the best choice right now.

"That's awesome. I'm so happy. Well listen the tacos are ready if you're hungry." He gestured to the door and stands up waiting for my answer.

"No thanks. I think I'm just gonna turn in for the night. Goodnight shawn."

He leaves and clicks the lights off when he does and I'm left in complete darkness. I feel so emotionally warn that I could fall asleep right now and never wake up but I don't sleep. I can't even close my eyes. I just sit there for about an hour until Dad comes in to check on me.

"Hey beautiful. I don't know if you're awake or not but if you are, I love you and I'll always be your dad when you need me. Goodnight."
