Jack J POV:
Izzy returned to Oregon today. I think I'll miss her. She was really beginning to grow on me.The court issued Mays birthfather once a week visitation rights for one hour. It's everyone's least favorite hour. Earlier today he was here and everyone had to sit quietly in the living room in a big circle doing absolutely nothing for an hour. No one said a thing.
When there was only two minutes left. May asked the guy if he knew where August was adopted to. He asked who August was and we all went back to being silent.
Once he finally left, the tension in the air lifted immediately. I closed the door behind him and watched while he pulled out of the driveway.
I turned around to see a few of the guys talking about how similar May acted to her father and how they have the same little fidget and eye twitch. I glanced at May to see Shawn giving her a hug.
I loudly cleared my throat.
"I'm still not okay with that. Two feet distance please." I didn't stay to see if they really backed up because I was feeling too down to see everyone.I made my way upstairs and into mays room where I could be alone. I strolled over to her desk and picked up a picture of the two of us that we took a few weeks ago.
She's only been here eight months but it feels like forever. I can't imagine if she ever has to leave us. This family would be torn apart.
"Knock knock." May says as she walks in.
"What are you doing in here?" She asks and joins me by the desk.
"I'm just thinking. You've been here only eight months and my life would be completely torn apart if you had to leave. That man is clearly your father anyone can see it. You even wipe your noses the same way. I just can't lose you." I explain everything to her. All about how stressed I've been and how I can't sleep because I'm always worried that someone will come take her from us.
"Dad you can't worry about that stuff. I'm not going anywhere especially not with that man. He's not my father. I can tell. And if he is he definitely didn't live with me because he doesn't know who Gus is." May tries her best to calm me down but it's so difficult to be calm at a time like this.
"We can't lose you here. You're exactly what these guys needed to hold our group together." I move back and sit on the end of her bed and she joins me. The sun is beginning to set over the LA skyline and and we watch it go down through her balcony doors.
"Dad I was to talk to you about something." Uh oh. Here it comes.
"I know that you want to protect me from everything and that's really nice of you but I grew up in a place where the luckiest kid was the one who was only slapped once a week. I can handle myself. Shawn is a really good guy. You know that better than I do and if he ever did anything to hurt me I promise I'd do more to him than you would." It took a lot more convincing but I eventually gave in.
Mays POV
I finally convinced my dad to let me see Shawn. We were anyways but now I have my dads permission.
My dad and I parted ways when he went to shower and I went to Shawn's room to tell him the good news. I found him there sitting on his bed reading.
"Whatcha reading this time Mendes?" I ask in a taunting voice.
"Orphan train." He replies not moving his eyes away from the page.
"Read to me?" I lay back in my ever so comfortable position resting my head on his stomach.
"It's human nature to want to think the best of others, but if you listen carefully, people will always tell you who they are." He closes the book and looks down at me.
"Who are you Shawn Mendes?"
"Just a guy who's in love with you."
