Jade went through her forms with her sword in the training yard, stabbing and slicing at the air in equal measure. It had been a week since she had discovered she was adopted and the attack by Shen's men, and since then Jade had thrown herself into weapons training like there was no tomorrow. She had to be as prepared as possible for when it was time to travel to Gongmen City and face the disgraced lord, so she was training in preparation... and totally not because she was trying to distract herself from obsessing over the new information her Abuela's letter had provided her.
Jade felt a spike of annoyance towards her behavior. Here she was, avoiding her problems like she had when the Five confessed to her, and like she had with the inevitable threat of Shen. Why couldn't she just deal with things frankly? Why did she have to be such a coward?!
"GAH!", Jade screamed in frustration as she turned around to slice through the empty space behind her. It was then that she saw Shifu was standing in the place she was about to swing her sword, and she barely managed to stop her strike in time to avoid lobbing off Shifu's head. Jade froze and stared at the old master in surprise.
"Shifu? What are you doing here?", Jade asked as she lowered her weapon, surprised to see the master in the training yard. She thought he would be busy for the whole day sorting out some issue with the scroll archives, but apparently fixing that problem hadn't taken him long. Shifu smiled at her knowingly.
"I could ask you the same thing. I must say I'm surprised to see you out and about. It's a little early to be training, even by my standards.", the blue eyed man remarked. Jade blinked at him in confusion.
"What are you talking about?", she questioned. She hadn't checked the time before getting up and coming out to train, but she was sure it wasn't that early. Shifu shot her an exasperated look.
"Jade, it's barely five am.", Shifu informed her, and Jade winced at the time.
"Oh. I didn't know.", she responded. It looked like all the added stress from her adoption situation and Shen had made her insomnia act up again. Just great. Shifu rolled his eyes at her answer.
"Clearly. Does anyone else know you're here?", the aged master asked, obviously referring to his other students. Jade shook her head.
"No, I didn't want to wake any of them up to tell them, and I didn't really think to leave a note. Laofu's probably gonna be worried when he wakes and I'm not in bed with him.", Jade said as she rubbed the back of her head thoughtfully. It had been the orange haired man's turn to cuddle with her last night. Shifu curled his lip in disgust, thinking the circumstances of his son and his student sharing a bed were much less innocent than they actually were.
"Jade, I have told you countless times that I do not want to know anything about my sons' sex lives.", Shifu reminded her, and Jade blushed slightly at his blunt comment before scoffing at the man.
"Oh relax Shifu, all we did was snuggle. I haven't fucked either of your sons... yet. But that can change if you'd like.", Jade offered with a sly smile, and Shifu's face turned red with mortification and rage.
"ABSOLUTELY NOT!", he screamed at the top of his lungs, and the girl cackled at her teacher's amusing reaction.
"Calm down, you know I'm only joking!", Jade soothed, but Shifu was still glaring at her. Eventually though, the old man let go of his anger and sighed, looking at Jade in renewed concern.
"In all seriousness though, what troubles you?", Shifu asked. Jade glared at him in annoyance before deciding to return to practicing her forms, hoping that would deter the man from talking to her.
