As the sun started to set I headed to the beach waiting to meet up with Rowan. We always met at a cave-like rocky part of the beach he discovered, where the ocean met with the sand. It was the perfect little cove. It was a spot where we could be hidden in case anyone accidentally saw us.

I smiled on my way to our cove. I would never get used to the idea that my best friend was a Water Breather. It was just all too unreal. I sat down on a rock, dangling my legs in the water watching the setting sun. I have learned so much of Rowan's beautiful life under the sea. His kind lived in an underwater kingdom hidden in the ocean named Cordelia. We spent every day after we met, together here just talking. He told me everything about his world, as I did mine and he was just as fascinated as I was about his life.

"Hey Milah!"

"Hi!" He was swimming towards me as I jumped off the rock and into the water. He smiled with his huge silly smile that reminded me of what it was like to be a kid again. Well figures since he does live under the sea, free from all the worries of the real world of a human life.

"So what has you smiling cheek to cheek?"

"Well, I actually have a big surprise for you. If you're up for it." He raised his eyebrow taunting me.

"What is it!" I was so excited; anything from him would surely be out of this world.

"I want to take you on a trip." He was still smiling.

"Where to?" I was utterly confused I mean where would we go? He couldn't walk and I was sure I couldn't swim anywhere too far, especially as the sun started to set, soon it will be dark.

"Do you trust me?"

"Of course." What was he planning?

"Then come with me." He took my hand and started leading me out into the ocean. I have to admit I was kind of scared although I did trust him, but the water was just so dark and not to mention deep, all I was able to see underwater was his lightly glowing finned tail.

"Where are you taking me Rowan?"

He smiled mischievously. "Trust me you'll love it."

As we started to swim farther from the shore he stopped.

"Hold on to me. I'm going to swim a lot faster now." He turned his back to me.

Oh dear! I did as he said wrapping my arms around his back my hands on his chest. I almost forgot how perfect his body was. I couldn't help but smile. I guess all that swimming does wonders for your body.

"Hold your breath." He said before he started to dive into the water.

I took a deep breathe and that's when he zoomed forward. I felt like I was riding a wave, the motion of his body moved very fluidly with the water. Occasionally he would swim to the surface for I could get air, although he could last much longer underwater than any human could, I'm glad he remembered I still needed it.

I wish I could open my eyes but he was going to fast so the water rushed over us quickly. It was dark so I guess it would be pointless anyways. We swam up for air again, then he started to turn to me so I let go of him.

"Where here." He said with a smile, a little breathless.

"Exactly where is here?" I started to look around until I saw them. I couldn't believe it! There was a small pod of four whales a couple of feet away. Rowan took my hand and started to slowly lead me to the whales. I hesitated worried it was dangerous.

"It's okay we do it all the time. Especially when we need a break from long distant swims around the world. They give us rest." He smiled. "You just got to know how to carefully find your way around them and their big flippers."

"What exactly are we doing?" I was scared to even ask.

"Why, we are going to ride on their backs of course!" He sounded so excited, leading me closer to these majestic creatures. WHAT?! He pulled me to the one that was separated from the rest, then carefully push me up. He then pulled himself up after I was on. With his arms he pulled himself more to the center dragging his tail, I carefully followed on my hands and knees. He laid down on his back.

"Look up." He put his arms behind his head. I laid next to him, and then I saw them, the stars. Oh how they were beautiful! They sparkled ever so brightly, millions of them twinkling above us.

"Oh my...there gorgeous. Where are we?" I couldn't see this many stars in the sky at the cove we were previously on.

"I swam as far out as I could, away from the city lights. I knew there were a small pod out here; I saw them earlier, a few miles away. I knew you would love it, I remember how much you love gazing at them all night." He smiled still looking up at the sky.

I wanted to make a remark about how he went a little overboard, seeing how we were on a whale's back! But I didn't want to ruin the moment, so I just stayed quiet, and moved a little closer to him, taking in this beautiful experience. This was definitely a moment I would never forget.
