Milah's POV

I woke to see Rowan's worried face.

What's the matter? I sat up alarmed. Judging by the look on his face I assumed something was wrong.

Oh sorry. He sat at the edge of the clam bed. I didn't mean to startle you, everything's okay. I just need to ask you something.

Okay. Go ahead.

Um.. If it were possible would you ever want to be able to... Become a Water Breather? Not permanently of course, you'll be able to switch back when ever you want.

Wow, that actually would be very cool. I would love that, I'll be able to be with you underwater, as a Water Breather! Rowan is that even possible? I shifted closer to him very excited at the idea, and he took my hand in his.

I'm glad to hear that. He smiled. That's exactly what I asked from my king. He said he will! Can you believe it?

Really?! What did he say about you and me?

Surprisingly he too had a past with a human girl. Crazy right?

What? How common is it for male Water Breathers too break the rules, and meet with human girls anyways?

It's not. He chuckled. He's actually the reason why there's a ban. When he became king he issued the ban, because his love unfortunately passed away due to some cruel men.

Oh... I'm sorry to hear that.

Yeah me too.

So what were you saying about the wish?

Well King Curren said he can allow you to be able to switch from human to Water Breather I don't know how, but he just said to bring you to him. So we should go now.
~~~
As we swam down the aisle, I noticed the King's eyes grew wide.
Hello King Curren. Rowan bowed as we floated in front of the King's throne.
This is Milah.
I held on to Rowan's hand, a little intimidated by the King.
Hello. I shyly waved at the King.
I don't believe my eyes. Curren was in awe. He swam a bit closer to me as I kind of swam a little towards Rowan.
Uh.. What's wrong? What did I do?
Your majesty, is something the matter? Rowan looked just as confused as I was.
Still looking at me, Curren apologized. He backed away from me.
It is nice to meet you, Milah. This may be bizarre but does your mother happen to be Serene Porter?
Uh no that's actually my aunt, how'd you know that?
Alister's eyes went wide.
Milah I knew your aunt Serene long ago, and your a spitting image of her.
What? No way. I turned to face Rowan, to see what he had to say:
Wow, what are the odds of that. Huh?
I was shocked. To think that my own aunt also knew of Water Breathers was amazing.
I never got to meet her. I'm sorry you lost her the way you did.
Thank you for your kind words. He smiled warily, looking less and less intimidating now.
Now about Rowan's wish, is this what you want? To become one of us?
Well I wouldn't mind it. I would love to be with Rowan underwater, without worrying about needing air. And besides I can turn back human, right?
Yes of course you can, but the transformation can be a little painful, and I need to know if your okay with that.
Yes I am sure.
Alright. I will make it happen, but with one condition Mila. You cannot at any circumstance reveal my kind to other humans.
Of course. I nodded my head in agreement. I won't tell a soul, you can trust me. I never told anyone about Rowan either.
I believe you. I wish you two luck and hope everything works out for you perfectly.
He swam back to his throne and grabbed his staff, and with it he placed the end of it on the top of my head. It glowed of golden light and I felt warmth melt over my body, starting from the top of my head slowly spreading all over. It was magical.
When he lifted the staff I looked at him wondering if it worked.
Now all you need to do is picture yourself as one of us. See your legs morph into a tail. See your self as a Water Breather.
I closed my eyes and did what he said, then I started to feel that warmth again. But the warmth slowly started to burn. Clenching my teeth trying to take in deep breathes I squeezed Rowan's hand. He quickly came over trying to support me any way he can with a worried look on his face.
I'm so sorry Milah, I didn't know the transformation would be painful. I'm so so sorry.
Finally when the burning pain started to slowly cool back into comfortable warmth, my body released its tension. I swam away from the two Water Breathers to let the pain pass through me and get my self to cool out. Out of breathe I opened my eyes and looked down and saw that my legs weren't there any more, but were replaced with a golden shimmering tail!
I looked at both Rowan and the King, shocked and happy at the same time. Curren was smiling and Rowan's mouth dropped, then he started smiling as well. He swam closer and took off my diver's mask. As he took it off I felt like I could breathe normally again. I took a deep breath of water enjoying it so very much. Then I swam straight to the King and hugged him in gratitude. This was probably inappropriate but I was so happy I didn't care.
Well I wish you two the best. Off you go now. He said through laughter.
