Chapter 49

Jamaica's POV

"Kevin!" I shouted as he was about to be attacked by Damien's blade. He blocked the attack with his bow.

I was too tired to keep fighting. How should we deal with this? I recalled the secret the Celestial Mother shared with me during the vision. The artifacts are twins. If the artifact within me were to be taken, I would be lost forever—which means I would die and not exist even in our celestial realm.

This was the very artifact that would ultimately defeat and eliminate the Destroyer. It felt like I had no choice but to sacrifice myself; otherwise, Nel, Kevin, and perhaps even the entire world would fall victim to the Destroyer's wrath.

"Jamaica," I heard her. It was the Celestial Mother.

We all paused in our struggle for a moment as if she might have sensed my thoughts and intentions. Kevin and Nel turned their attention to me and the Celestial Mother.

"Please, don't!" she pleaded, her voice filled with desperation.

"What is going on?" Kevin asked.

"This is our only chance, Celestial Mother!" She shook her head, urging me not to follow through with my thoughts or plans. But I was ready for this. I knew I would blame myself if the entire world's fate were left to those who sought to destroy it.

"Celestial Mother?" Nel inquired, seeking clarity about the situation unfolding around him. He glanced at the Celestial Mother, but all she could offer in response were silent tears.

"Time is of the essence. I must proceed with this matter; I respectfully request your understanding." Then, I took the celestial blade to slice my chest.

"Jamaica, please stop that!" Nel couldn't help but cry. He seemed to understand what was going to happen. He flew toward me, flapping his wings faster to stop me from what I was doing, but it was too late. I had already created a shield to protect my actions. I knew they would try to prevent me from succeeding.

"Jamaica!" Kevin and Nel slammed the shield that protected me. They wanted to destroy it to stop me.

"I'm sorry," I mouthed silently.

"No, no, no!" Nel shouted in frustration.

Leaving them was incredibly difficult. I would miss their flat jokes and warm smiles. This was my life—my destiny. I had to sacrifice to prevent the apocalypse; I needed to stop the one responsible for it. This was the only way forward—my self-sacrifice was necessary.

"Mother, please do something!" Kevin urged her, desperation in his voice. I knew she had it in her to intervene, to stop my actions. But she held back. She grasped my plan and recognized that my sacrifice was necessary for the safety of everyone involved.

Then, the barrier I created erupted. I had taken the artifact from my heart. It was painful—too painful. The Destroyer was astonished to see another artifact in my hand. What he knew was there was only one artifact. And he had taken the artifact from Kevin, which was why he had become even more powerful. But this artifact in my heart was the opposite of Kevin's artifact. If Kevin's was to give him power, mine was to kill him forever in this timeline.

I approached him, feeling like a tiny ant in front of him. I pressed the artifact against his heart. He laughed joyfully, thinking I was giving him another power. But he was wrong! Absolutely wrong!

"No!" he cried out in despair, realizing that the artifact I had placed in his heart was leading to his downfall.

I pressed the artifact firmly into his heart, and it burst into radiant light, illuminating the entire place. Kevin and Nel instinctively shielded their eyes, stunned by the brilliance that filled the space. The shadows receded, and then I was gone forever, at least not in a physical sense.
