Chapter 10
Kevin's POV
The night felt heavier than usual as if the universe was holding its breath. And me? I was caught in a storm I didn't understand. My pulse thudded in my ears as I raced through the streets, my feet moving faster than my thoughts.
I didn't know where I was going—I never did. My life had always been a series of aimless steps, a foggy path with no clear destination. But tonight, something was different. Something had shifted.
It started with the dream.
No, not a dream. A memory.
I stood in a vast expanse of light, the ground beneath me shimmering like liquid gold. Voices surrounded me, their words incomprehensible but somehow familiar. And then, a figure stepped forward. She was radiant, her presence commanding yet comforting.
"You have failed, Kevin," she had said, her voice a mixture of disappointment and sorrow. "But I will give you another chance."
I woke up gasping for air, drenched in sweat, her words echoing. Failed? Another chance? What did it all mean?
And now, here I was, running as if my life depended on it. Maybe it did.
The tug in my chest was undeniable, like a string pulling me toward something—or someone. It wasn't the first time I'd felt it, but tonight, it was stronger and more urgent.
I turned a corner and stopped dead in my tracks.
The tower loomed before me, its lights cutting through the darkness. My breath caught as I spotted two figures on the rooftop, one glowing like a star, the other reaching toward her.
Jamaica.
The name hit me like lightning, jolting something deep within me. Fragmented and blurry memories began to surface—her laughter, her tears, her courage—and then, another face.
Nel.
I stumbled backward, clutching my head as a searing pain tore through my skull. Images flashed before my eyes: Nel and I standing side by side, our hands glowing with celestial energy—a voice—hers—calling out to us.
"Protect her. Guide her."
I fell to my knees, gasping for air as the memories crashed over me like a tidal wave.
I wasn't just Kevin Quiamco, the aimless guy with no purpose. I was a Guardian. A Celestial Guardian.
And I'd failed her.
The realization hit me like a punch to the gut. That's why I'd been sent here, stripped of my powers and memories. It wasn't just a punishment—it was a test.
But now, as I looked up at Jamaica hovering above the rooftop, her wings spread wide, I knew I couldn't let her down again.
I forced myself to my feet, the pain in my head subsiding as a new sensation took its place. Power. It was faint, like a spark trying to ignite, but it was there.
Each step toward the tower felt like a step closer to who I used to be. By the time I reached the rooftop door, my heart was pounding, and my hands trembled with energy.
I pushed the door open and stepped into the cool night air.
Jamaica turned to me, her glowing eyes widening in recognition. "Kevin?"
Her voice was soft, but it carried the weight of everything we'd been through, even if she didn't remember it all yet.
I nodded, my throat tight. "Yeah, it's me."
