Chapter 30
Nel's POV
The air crackled with tension as Kevin, now fully himself, stood beside us. His presence felt solid, a force to be reckoned with after the chaos he'd endured. He wasn't just standing there; he was alive, his soul fierce and undeniable. But there was no time to savor the moment.
Sofia—the traitor—stood across from us, her posture regal, like she knew something we didn't. Her eyes glowed with a twisted sense of purpose, and the air around her pulsed with power. She was no longer the same girl we thought we knew. She was something else entirely.
I glanced at Kevin. To all of us, the weight of what had happened to him felt unbearable, but there was no time for hesitation. It was like a storm had swept through our lives, tearing everything apart, and now we were standing in the wreckage.
Sofia's eyes met mine, and a flicker of recognition passed between us for the briefest moment. But it was gone just as quickly as it came.
"You should have stayed away," she said, her voice cold, cutting through the stillness.
The words hit harder than I expected. She knew. She knew what we were trying to do and had no intention of letting us succeed.
Kevin stepped forward, his gaze locked on Sofia. His voice was a low growl, barely containing the rage that simmered beneath the surface. "You were with the Destroyer all along."
Sofia didn't flinch. She smiled—a slow, sinister curve of her lips. "And you did have to learn the truth, didn't you?"
I thought the Destroyer was a man who fell in love with the Celestial Mother. Maybe she's just possessed?
I didn't know what was worse—the fact that she was the enemy or that she had never been on our side. The girl we'd once trusted was now standing against us, her loyalty torn between us and the Destroyer, the one who had always manipulated her and controlled her every move.
Her eyes darkened, her fingers curling into claws. "You think you can stop him? You think you can stop us?"
Before I could respond, a deep rumbling filled the air. The ground beneath our feet trembled like the earth had come alive, echoing with some dark energy I couldn't understand. I didn't need to see it to know what was happening. The Destroyer was near, his influence growing stronger by the second.
I saw Kevin's face—his jaw tight, his fists clenched. He was ready, I could tell. But the question lingered in the air, heavy with an unspoken truth: would we be enough to face Sofia and the Destroyer's army, or were we about to be swallowed whole by forces beyond our control?
Sofia's expression turned cruel as if she knew something we didn't. "He's coming," she said, her voice dripping with malice. "And you will never be enough."
Before I could react, the sky above us seemed to crack, like a door to another world was opening. Dark clouds swirled, a storm of shadows encroaching on our space. I felt it before I saw it—his presence. The Destroyer was here, and he wasn't alone.
I turned to Kevin and Jamaica. Their faces were etched with the same resolve I felt in my bones. We were about to face the fight of our lives.
And there would be no going back.
The storm above us thickened as if the heavens were mourning what was to come. The winds howled, furious and unrelenting. It was as if nature was trying to warn us, but it was too late. The Destroyer was here, and we were already in his grip.
