[KYE]
The party was already buzzing when Kye ducked through the oversized doorway, Mason trailing ahead of him. Even among other giants, Kye was tall, his shoulders brushing close to the frame as he hesitated on the threshold. The space inside was massive, built for the towering frames of giants, but it was alive with bodies of all sizes. Giants stood in groups near the walls and bar, their laughter booming above the bass-heavy music, while humans darted between them like fish weaving through a coral reef.
Mason was already moving confidently into the room, his small frame almost swallowed by the tide of movement around him. Barely reaching the knees of the smallest giants, Mason was dwarfed by the crowd, but it didn't seem to faze him. If anything, his size only seemed to amplify his charm, drawing attention as he smiled and waved at every familiar face.
Kye followed reluctantly, his broad shoulders and long limbs making him hyper-aware of every movement. The hoodie Mason had picked out hung off his lanky frame, baggy but deliberate, and underneath was a fitted tee that showed just enough of his tattoo to catch the occasional glance. His bleached hair, normally a tangled mess, was combed back into an effortless style that Mason had spent far too much time perfecting. Kye even wore Mason's cologne—woodsy and crisp—though he felt weirdly self-conscious about it, like he was borrowing a part of Mason he wasn't sure he could pull off.
Still, none of it helped him feel less like a tree awkwardly planted in the middle of a dance floor.
For a moment, Kye caught a glimpse of himself in a mirrored wall nearby. He looked... different. The hoodie Mason had picked out actually suited him, the clean lines making him look more put-together than usual. His bleached hair caught the light, and the faint sheen of Mason's cologne lingered around him, adding an air of something unfamiliar—confidence, maybe.
But despite the effort Mason had put into making him look good, Kye still felt out of place. He wasn't Mason. He didn't know how to light up a room or make everyone feel like his best friend. He was just... Kye.
And right now, that didn't feel like enough
The noise hit him like a wall. Music thudded relentlessly, vibrating through his chest, and voices—giant and human alike—rose above the din, each trying to outdo the other. Kye's pale skin practically glowed under the party lights, drawing a few curious glances as he ducked his head and hunched his shoulders, trying to fold in on himself. His long legs carried him through the crowd in slow, cautious steps, careful not to trip over a human or accidentally bump into another giant.
Meanwhile, Mason was thriving.
"Hey! Mason!" a deep voice boomed from across the room, and Kye turned to see Blake—a towering giant from the track team—waving enthusiastically. Despite being barely knee-high to Blake, Mason raised an arm and waved back like it was the most natural thing in the world.
"Mason! You made it!" Blake crouched down to Mason's level, his grin wide and genuine. Mason barely reached Blake's shins, but he stood there confidently, tilting his head up to meet the giant's gaze without hesitation.
"Of course I made it," Mason said, his voice cutting through the noise with ease. "Wouldn't miss it!"
Kye lingered awkwardly a few feet behind, trying to stay out of the way as Mason exchanged quick words with Blake. It was almost comical how different they looked—Mason, small and compact, his head barely reaching the giant's knee, while Kye loomed in the background, his lanky frame somehow managing to look even more out of place than Mason's. Despite being the same size as Blake, Kye felt impossibly awkward, like his limbs were too big and his presence too clumsy.
Mason didn't seem to notice—or care—that he was the smallest person in the room. Everywhere they went, someone waved or called his name, giants and humans alike. Mason greeted them all with his easy grin, weaving through the crowd with a confidence that Kye couldn't help but admire. Even the giant girls noticed him, crouching down to his level with wide smiles and open arms.
