[KYE]
The days following that morning had been a strange blend of quiet understanding and unspoken connection. Kye found himself seeking out moments with Mason in a way he hadn't expected. It wasn't like they'd talked about it or anything; it was just... natural. Every time he saw Mason, it felt like some kind of magnet pulling him closer, drawing him into a space he couldn't quite name, but didn't want to leave.
Whenever Kye had a free moment—whether it was late in the evening when the world outside felt still—he found himself seeking out Mason, just to be near him. It wasn't even about words most of the time. He'd lean against the doorframe, watching Mason finish an essay at the kitchen table or scroll through his phone, and Mason would glance up with a grin, and they'd end up sitting together, sometimes not even speaking, just existing in the same space.
When Mason would arrive home after track, Kye would greet him at the door, sometimes he would sit down on the floor, his oversized body awkward and long, and he'd open his arms, Mason stepping closer to be pulled into a hug without thinking. He'd rest his head gently on top of Mason's, smell his conditioner on his hair.
Mason would climb over him with ease, his small hands bracing against Kye's shoulders or chest as he crawled up, settling comfortably in Kye's lap, his legs tucked beneath him. It felt strange at first, Kye still awkward with the closeness, the sharp contrast between their sizes never lost on him.
But Mason never seemed to mind, never made him feel like a giant. Instead, he'd talk, chat about everything—gossip from the track team, little things from his day, how some of the guys on the team were still showing off despite losing the last meet. Kye listened, always, the words a soothing hum as he pulled Mason closer, comforted by the warmth of him and the quiet companionship they shared.
Even in the silence, Kye found himself wrapped up in the small human'
The silence was enough, more than enough, in a way but couldn't explain.
It felt easy. Comfortable. Maybe too comfortable.
He found himself wishing for those moments more and more.
And, as the weekend approached, there was something else Kye couldn't shake—the thought of Mason's track meet. He knew Mason had been preparing for it for weeks. Kye had always respected Mason's athleticism, but this? This was something different. It was something Mason had worked for, something he poured himself into.
Kye had promised to go.
He kept his word, even if the idea of being there—a giant sitting off to the side of a track meet where the humans were all so small and fast—felt awkward at first. But it was important to Mason, and that was enough to make him go, to push through the discomfort.
As he approached the track, Kye couldn't help but notice how out of place he felt. His lanky limbs were a stark contrast to the lean, fluid bodies of the small athletes.
He was nearly as tall as most of the bleachers, standing out like a sore thumb. His pale skin, especially under the bright sun, made him feel even more noticeable. His hoodie, a little too big for him, bunched up at the waist, the sleeves hanging loosely over his hands.
He didn't mind it much—he'd always preferred comfort over style—but today, he couldn't shake the feeling of being a giant among ants.
He found a spot at the edge of the field, well away from the crowd, where he could still see Mason. He didn't want to distract anyone, especially not Mason. He watched as the small, fast bodies gathered for the race, and then his gaze landed on Mason. There he was, stretching with the focus of someone who'd put everything into this moment.
