People always say things happen for a reason. No matter how bad it is— there is something beautiful waiting behind it.
I always believed that. But seeing Liam laying helplessly on the hospital bed with so many wires connected to his body, I want to scream. It's so unfair to him. Liam is so freakishly nice to everyone. He doesn't deserve this.
Liam's parents are nowhere to be seen. It's been three days and they still haven't visited their son. Lucy had contacted them on the first day and Harry called Liam's father yesterday. They both got the same response; we are busy but we will send money to pay the hospital. Seriously though, if it were me, my parents will be here immediately despite our distance. How could Liam's parents be so careless about all of this?
And if that doesn't make me sad enough, Lucy can't leave the hospital for the past three days. Her eyes are red from crying and you can easily tell she haven't had a good sleep just looking at her appearance.
As soon as I heard the news, I begged Anne to dismiss me. It was difficult since the bakery was full that day, but after ten minutes of convincing and a phone call from Harry, I finally made it to the hospital. Thankfully, I saved enough days to not coming to the bakery for the third day.
Harry had stopped by everyday. And he never forgets to bring food with him. For everyone else it seems like he was okay although I can tell he really is not.
The doctor comes out of the room for the second time today. And as usual, Lucy is the first person who stands up.
"How is he? Did he wake up? Can I see him?" Her questions always go like this and I don't blame her. They don't allow her to see Liam at all.
Doctor Julia smiled sympathetically. "Sorry, dear. He is still unconscious but his vitals are better than yesterday." I can see Lucy almost cried hearing all of this. "But I'm so sorry. No one is allowed to see him except family."
Harry, who had been silent since he got here, stands up abruptly. "I understand if you don't allow both of us get in there," he pointed at himself and me. "But she is his girlfriend."
She shakes her head. "I'm sorry but Mr. Payne is so fragile at the moment. We can't risk anything. This is one of the main rules in here."
Lucy starts to sob quietly beside me. I hug her immediately, trying to comfort her is the best thing I can do right now.
"His parents are too busy to even visit their goddamn son!"Harry grits his teeth in frustration. I'm pretty sure he is trying not to lash out. "Her sisters are not in the same country! How the fuck do you expect them to come here?!"
"Rules are rules, Sir. We can't allow you or your friends without a permission from Mr. Payne's family."
I know their reasons. And quite frankly I kind of admire the way they stick to the rules. But this is completely ridiculous. Lucy is his freaking girlfriend for crying out loud! They should allow her to see him.
"Wait a second, so, you're saying if we get a permission from his family then we can go in?" Harry asked the doctor once again.
She thought for a moment before answering his question. "I guess."
It was like someone just flicked a light inside of his brain. Harry pulled put his phone and started tapping away.
"Okay, um. I will go to check the other patients."
"Doctor Julia?" I call up to her before she walks too far. "Thank you. We really appreciate what you have done."
She smiles and nods at me.
