I shifted my gaze to the rest of the group, my heart heavy with confusion. There was Darcy cradled in Athena's comforting embrace, her small frame trembling slightly as she fought to hold back tears. Monrow stood nearby, transfixed and wide-eyed, staring at Kai's lifeless body, as if trying to comprehend the reality of the moment. It struck me that Brodey was still sprawled across the couch, blissfully unaware of the tragedy that had unfolded while he slept.
Finally, my eyes landed on Arrow, who was rooted to the spot; his shoulders shook with quiet sobs, the raw emotion escaping him in muffled gasps. The mix of grief and shock in the room was palpable, a heavy shroud that clung to us as we grappled with our reactions to the heart-wrenching loss.
Apollo's expression was one of pure fury, and honestly, he had every right to feel that way. At that moment, I wasn't sure of anything anymore. She was so confused, and yet she was smiling despite everything that had happened. It was disconcerting. With a heavy heart, Apollo gently lowered Kai's lifeless body onto the cold floor, taking a moment to collect himself. He stood there, frozen in place, staring down at the still form of his once vibrant friend.
The bond between them had always been extraordinary; they had grown up side by side, practically like brothers. Their lives were intertwined with countless shared experiences and secrets, and the thought of that connection made the loss even more painful. They had spent countless days laughing and causing mischief together, their youthful exuberance endearing them to everyone around them. Yet beneath that joyful façade, they were both wrestling with their struggles, navigating a world that often felt overwhelming.
As I recalled the memories of their childhood, I couldn't help but feel a wave of nostalgia mixed with sorrow. They had brightened everyone's lives, their laughter echoing through the halls, but they were also carrying burdens that few could see. The sharp contrast of their playful innocence and the weight of their challenges haunted me. In that moment, I realized just how much they had been through together, and how deeply Apollo's grief ran.
As I sat quietly, the fleeting moments of joy and laughter that once filled my mind threatened to bring a smile to my face. Yet, amidst the heaviness of the present, I knew that now was not the right moment to indulge in those cherished memories. The weight of the situation held me back, grounding me in reality, even as nostalgic thoughts danced just beyond my reach.
I understood that this situation would hit him the hardest, but I hadn't anticipated that his initial reaction to the grief would manifest as anger. Suddenly, I found Apollo attempting to dash past me and out the door. In a swift motion, I seized the back of his shirt and pulled him tightly against me, wrapping my arms around his to prevent him from lashing out. He struggled fiercely, desperate to reach Zilla, who was in the kitchen. "YOU BITCH!!!!" Apollo shouted, his voice echoing through the doorway as he continued to fight against my hold. "How can you be smiling when he's dead? How can you be so self-absorbed that you don't see the pain others are in? I will never forgive you, you stupid BITCH!!!!!!!!!"
He was in a complete frenzy, shouting and cursing, and I felt utterly lost. I tried my best to reach out, speaking softly in hopes of soothing him, but my words seemed to fall on deaf ears as he continued to lash out. I stood there, feeling the weight of the situation bear down on me, my heart racing with concern and uncertainty. It felt like an eternity, but I just held him, wrapping my arms around him in a gentle embrace, trying to convey my support and love even when it felt like he was miles away. Desperation surged through me as I hoped that my presence would eventually bring him back to a calmer state.
After my last attempt, he completely collapsed in my arms, as if all his strength had drained away. His legs buckled beneath him, and I felt the weight of his body pull us both down to the floor. I quickly adjusted my position, wrapping my arms around him to provide the support he desperately needed. As I pulled him close, I could feel the tremors of his body, the sobs escaping his throat like a tidal wave crashing against the shore. Tears streamed down his cheeks, glistening in the dim light, flowing freely like rain cascading down a car window, leaving a trail of sorrow in their wake. It broke my heart to see him so vulnerable, and all I could do was hold him tighter, wishing to shield him from his pain.
