The night time, Jungkook’s fingers tapped against the steering wheel as he drove through the familiar streets, his phone balanced precariously on the dashboard, blasting Yugyeom’s voice through the speakers. Three days. Three whole days since that frustratingly short phone call. And three long, agonizing weeks since he had last seen Dr. Kim in person.
And yet, here he was again, heading towards the same building for what felt like the hundredth time. Every day, he had made the same trip, parked in the same spot, taken the elevator to the same floor—only to be met with the same locked door. But today… today could be different.
"Seriously, why are you even behind that man? You can have plenty of people, Jungkook," Yugyeom’s voice rang through the car, exasperated yet laced with amusement. “I mean, you could probably snap your fingers and have a dozen guys lining up for you. Why him?”
Jungkook sighed, gripping the wheel a little tighter. He hesitated, but then, as if flipping a switch, he slipped into his usual dramatics. "Yes, Jeon Jungkook isn't bound to one person!" he declared, flicking his hair dramatically even though no one was watching. "But you know... Dr. Kim is just fun to annoy."
Yugyeom snorted on the other end of the line. "Right. And that’s the only reason you’re spending every morning outside his apartment like some lovesick fool?"
Jungkook gasped. "Lovesick?! Excuse me!?" He huffed, pretending to be offended. "I'm simply a responsible citizen ensuring that the ever-so-rude and mysteriously disappearing Dr. Kim hasn't been abducted by aliens or worse—gotten himself a boyfriend."
Yugyeom burst out laughing. "Oh, so that's the real problem, huh? You're scared someone else stole your favorite enemy?”
Jungkook clicked his tongue. "Not scared. Just... curious," he mumbled, turning the steering wheel with one hand as he reached the familiar street. He pulled into his usual parking spot, eyes locked on the high-rise building in front of him. "Besides, I just need to confirm he’s back. And then I can move on with my glamorous life."
Yugyeom hummed. "Right. Because clearly, you’ve moved on these past three weeks."
Jungkook ignored him, stepping out of the car. His heart pounded just a little faster than usual, but he shook off the feeling, fixing his hoodie over his head as he strode toward the entrance. Today could be different. Today had to be different.
Because if Taehyung still wasn’t back…
Jungkook didn’t know what he’d do next.
Jungkook stormed through the glass doors of the building, his jaw set, arms folded tightly over his chest, and feet stomping against the marble floor like he was marching into battle. His patience had long run dry, and today was the day.
"If he isn't back today," he muttered under his breath, the determination in his voice sharp enough to cut steel. His eyes burned with unspoken frustration as he headed straight for the receptionist’s desk. "I’ll kidnap him out of his house!"
With a dramatic flourish, he slammed his ID onto the counter without even sparing a glance at the elderly woman behind it. The force made a loud thud, causing a few people in the lobby to turn their heads.
"Ah—Mister Jeon, wait! You—"
But Jungkook wasn’t in the mood for lectures. He was already halfway to the elevator, tuning out her protests as he jabbed the call button repeatedly. He wasn’t going to be stopped today.
The elevator doors slid open, and Jungkook stepped in swiftly, pressing the button for the top floor—Dr. Kim’s floor.
Just as the doors were about to close, a foot wedged itself between them. Jungkook scowled as they slid open again, revealing a middle-aged delivery man panting slightly, balancing a heavy-looking package in his arms.
