Jungkook, his chopsticks frozen mid-air, stared at Taehyung, his eyes wide with a sudden realization. Wedding? His mind raced, heart pounding in his chest. Is Dr. Kim marrying someone!? A strange, unexpected pang of hurt welled up inside him. He’d never considered it before, but now, with the mention of a marriage, the possibility suddenly felt real, and the idea twisted in his gut.
His eyes darted between Taehyung and his plate, trying to make sense of the situation. But the conversation on the phone continued, pulling him back to the words.
"But, son," Taehyung’s mom persisted, "he’s not good for you. Let’s call it off."
Before Taehyung could respond, Jungkook, without thinking, jumped into the conversation, his mouth already moving before he fully realized what he was doing. "Yes! Auntie’s right!" he declared with surprising confidence, setting his chopsticks down and turning toward Taehyung’s mom. "Hey, Auntie, it’s me! Your son’s bestie!" He paused, then added with a shrug, "Well, bestie slash enemy, but you know what? I mean. You’re totally right, Dr. Kim deserves someone great!" His words were a bit more rushed than usual, as he didn’t fully understand the weight of what he was saying but felt a strange desire to support Taehyung’s mom.
Taehyung raised an eyebrow at him, mildly amused but mostly curious. "Told you to stay shut, huh?" he remarked, his eyes narrowing playfully at Jungkook.
Jungkook, realizing too late what he had done, stuck his tongue out in childish defiance. But inside, something felt off. He wasn’t sure why, but the idea of Taehyung marrying someone felt like a betrayal—something he wasn’t ready to face.
Taehyung continued the conversation, his voice lighter now. "Uhh, Taehyung, baby, I’ll call you back, okay? Your appa asked something," Taehyung’s mom said, her tone now slightly softer, like she knew she was pushing a little too hard.
"Okay. Bye, Mom," Taehyung said, his voice full of warmth, the call ending with a soft click. He placed his phone back on the table and turned his gaze toward Jungkook, who still looked shaken by the exchange.
"I told you not to speak, hm?" Taehyung said with a knowing smile, but his eyes were searching Jungkook’s face, sensing the confusion that flickered there.
Jungkook set his chopsticks down with a clatter, frustration bubbling in his chest. "Dr. Kim!? You’re marrying someone!?" he asked, unable to hide the hurt in his voice, the question coming out more as an accusation than curiosity.
Taehyung, ever the composed figure, merely hummed, his eyes softening. "Yes. You’re invited," he said nonchalantly, though there was a glimmer of something deeper in his gaze.
Jungkook scoffed, the words slipping out before he could think. "Auntie said he isn’t right for you! You know moms always tend to be right! Be a good boy and listen to your mom," he said, half pleading, half joking, but the underlying frustration was clear. His chopsticks clattered onto the table as he pushed his food aside, focusing entirely on Taehyung.
Taehyung’s gaze flickered over him, the corners of his lips twitching into a smile. "Why are you taking my mom’s side?" he asked, amusement dancing in his voice.
Jungkook, suddenly defensive, crossed his arms over his chest, scoffing again. "Because moms are always right!" he declared, almost childishly, as he let his chopsticks clink against the table with a touch of annoyance.

Taehyung chuckled softly, shaking his head. "Not always, Jungkook," he said, his voice lighter now, a knowing look in his eyes. "Sometimes, they’re wrong."Jungkook looked at Taehyung, trying to understand the layers in his words, his chest tight with feelings he couldn’t quite explain. Something about the whole situation felt... wrong, yet he couldn’t place exactly why. The idea of Taehyung marrying someone else, of being so distant, pulled at him in a way that confused him even more.
