I walked back to class and sat down at my desk, laying my head on the hard wooden surface when a dark shadow sat down at the seat beside mine. Please don't let it be Johnny, I prayed. I looked up to see the boy with the dark sweater. He was looking out of the window, spaced out. He had dark hair like mine in layers, spread across his forehead and down the back of his head to his neck. His nose was sharp and pointed, angled perfectly.
"Hansol!" A girl with long wavy hair sat down in the desk in front of his. "Hey Hansol, do you have free time today?" She eagerly smiled at him. I winced. Was she trying to ask him out? Her seducing game was so lame.
"I'm busy," he said, without glancing her way.
"Ah...really? With what?" She continued to ask questions, her loud and airy voice annoyed me.
"Just stuff," he sighed and put his head in his arms. "Go away Nina, I'm tired."
The girl named Nina pouted. "Hansol if you keep acting like this, I'm going to cry and never talk to you again."
"Go ahead, it's not like we're dating anyways," his voice was muffled and sleepy.
"Hmph!" Nina got up and angrily marched away.
"Is she gone?" Hansol lifted his head up and looked around. "Whew, she's gone."
"That was pretty mean of you to say that. I think she really likes you," I said.
"She doesn't like me." He scoffed. "She likes the fact that I'm popular and handsome. She doesn't actually like me."
I frowned. He seemed cocky.
"So newbie, why did you come to this trashy school?" He tilted his head and raised his eyebrow.
"My parents chose it for me."
"How unfortunate. Have a nice four years."
"Thanks." I put my head back on the desk and closed my eyes.
"Hansol! My man!" My eyes blinked open, recognizing the voice. It was Johnny. "Hansol, you sit next to the newbie? Is she sleeping?" The voice was very near and I frantically looked at Hansol, pleading for help. He nodded his head slightly, getting my message. I squeezed my eyes shut, hoping that my rapid breathing wouldn't give me away.
"She's been sleeping." Phew, thank you Hansol.
"Oh well, that's a shame. I wanted to talk to her."
"You see, Johnny here is slightly infatuated-"
"What do you mean, slightly? He's completely head over heels for her!"
"Taeyong, Ten, shut up. I'm not. She's just pretty, I feel bad for her. I think Jess and the other girls might bully her."
"They're going to bully her more if you hang out with her, Johnny."
"Ten! Didn't I say to shut up?"
"Aw he's embarrassed about the truth." The boy named Ten started to tease Johnny.
"Johnny!" A high pitched voice called out his name. I recognized it as Jess.
Johnny sighed. "Yes, Jess."
"Lets go to class now."
Johnny, Taeyong, Ten and the other boys with him left. I opened my eyes, breathing heavily.
"Why are you so scared of Johnny?" Hansol was studying me, his brown eyes boring into mine.
"I don't know. I think I'm more scared of Jess." I bitterly admitted the truth.
He laughed. "Wow, you learn quick. Jess is like the queen of the school and Johnny is her king."
"Are they dating?"
"Yeah, but Johnny wants to break up with her, but he can't because all the girls at this school will practically hate him."
"Ah..." I understood. "Then why is he talking to me?"
"You're pretty." Hansol blatantly spoke, his eyes still locked onto mine.
I laughed weakly.
"I'm serious."
"Yeah, I know..." I trailed off, unsure of what to say.
"I think it'd be best if you tried not to gain any attention. The girls at this school are crazy. They might hurt you a lot."
"T-thanks for the tip."
