And I Took You in Like a Fool

I don't know what I've done
I never seem to know
But to think that you were one
and that I really, truly loved you so

To hear those words of poison
The ones you spew behind my back
The way you're playing treason
True human empathy is what you lack

Spiteful to a restless case
Tell me like it's worth a chance
You say that I needed space
Or you would never advance

To have a liar for a friend
A backstabber for a comrade
To see you around again
Makes me a sinner to this fad

I thought I had to adjust
and maybe move on
However, my old life
might just be where I belong

There's a lot you misunderstood
It's not a difference of age
Not even pretending like you could
Gosh, you make me wanna rage

I idolised and respected
But now I recall and reason
Even with explanation, you'd forget it
You're still a player of treason

Unreciprocating how I felt
You say you joke around, not enough
Mocking the memories I held
Don't you think that's kinda rough

You should have said something
and told me what I had done
I can't read you, that's one thing
for two, hate's no fun

I never needed to be better
I never needed you to rule
You're a "benefits" trendsetter
and I took you in like a fool

Maybe I need to move on
Maybe I need to forget
My old life is where I'm from
Against those rules you set

I'm not sorry I wasn't part of your fight
I'm allowed to think for myself
I'm my own person, and that's what's right
Soul search, you'll probably find yourself

I won't waste my breath
talking about a dead sapling
Keep roleplaying your own death
I couldn't have stopped it from happening
