We arrived at school with about ten minutes before class started. We quickly made are way to our lockers. Sara and I were lucky and our lockers have been next to each other since freshmen year. That’s how we actually me. I could not figure out how to open my locker she was the only one who was kind enough to stop and help me. We have been inseparable ever since. As I opened up my locker I could not help but smile.
“What’s up with you?” Sara asked.
“I was just thinking about the first time we met.” I told her honestly.
“You’re such a dork.” She informed me.
It was strange that Sara and I would be friends. We were both popular but besides that there was not much we had in common. I was an A+ student. She was happy to get by with D’s. I was very kind and soft spoken. She was loud and honest. I could not tell a lie to save my life. Sara was the queen at lying. Really she could come up with a lie rite on the spot. Sometimes she lied threw her teeth. It actually scares me sometimes. It does not even seem to bother her to lie anymore.
When I opened my locker something fell out and landed on the floor in front of my feet. I bent over and picked it up. It was an envelope. A thick gold envelope. I flipped it over to examine it more. My name was written on the back with black ink. My name was written in the most beautiful cursive I have ever seen.
“What is it?” Sara asked.
“I don’t know.” I responded because it was true.
I was about to open it when the bell for first period rang.
“Shit where late.” Sara yelled.
I quickly garbed the books I needed for all of my class’s before lunch and placed the ones I did not need in my locker. I put the gold envelope in one of my note books. I closed, locked it and ran after Sara towards our English class.
“I can’t believe where late Mr. Miller is going to kill us.” I told Sara rite before we walked through the class room door.
I took a deep breath and opened up the door and walked inside. The class room was like every other high school class room. Plain colors on the walls. A white bored sat behind the teacher’s desk and there were four long rows of uncomfortable school desks in front of that.
“Well look who decided to join us.” Mr. Miller said once we were inside the room.
“I’m sorry, we were”
I did not get to finish my sentence because Mr. Miller held up his hand like he does when he wants his students to stop talking.
“I don’t want to hear your excuses and neither does the class. Now please take your seats before you take up anymore of my time. You can explain to me this Saturday in detention. Both of you.”
“You have got to be kidding me. Where only three minutes late.” Sara snapped at him.
“You have just made that two Saturday detentions. Amanis you can thank your friend because you will be joining her.” He told me.
I looked over to Sara and I could tell she was going to say more. I did not want to spend my howl senior year in detention to I gave her a kick jab in the ribs. She shut up and I dragged her to our seats in the back of the room.
Once I was in my seat I took a long quick sigh. This was going to be one hell of a day. English seemed to drag on forever. I swear Mr. Miller had it out for us. Every other question he had was directed at ether me or Sara. When the bell rang and class was over I was overjoyed. I don’t think I have been happier in my life.
