I finally found the office. Once inside I got my schedule and a quick tour of the school, ending at my first period classroom, and to my disappointment it was history, my favorite subject, and I was fifteen minutes late.
Well, you win some you lose some, though, in my life, it seemed I was always losing.
“Mrs. Brown,” the principal said, “this is Elizabeth Martinez, she is a new student. Please make her feel welcome.”
“Of course,” Mrs. Brown said. “please come in Elizabeth, we are happy to have you.” At that the principal left the room.
“Now,” said Mrs. Brown, “I’m sure you don’t want to be called ‘Elizabeth,’ now do you?”
“No ma’am.” I said. “Iprefer to be called Elle.”
“Elle it is then.” She said. “Why don’t you tell us about yourself, Elle? Where are you from?”
“Well, I’m from here in LA, I just transferred from one of the public schools to this private one.”
“I see. Class, let’s welcome Elle!” she exclaimed. “one, two, three” she canted.
And all at once the entire class said, “Welcome, Elle.” I seriously thought I was back in third grade.
“There is an empty seat next to Charlie, why don’t you take that one, Elle?”
I nodded. ‘sure,’ I thought. Until I saw who Charlie was.
I looked up, and the only empty seat in the room was next to the hottie I bumped into earlier.
This was going to be interesting.
