We spent the rest of our shopping trip with Tyler and Lorraine, which made me happy, because I had no idea when I would see them next.
“So,” Tyler asked Amanda, “what was this guy’s name again?”
“Charlie, Charlie Prinz,” she said.
“Wait, isn’t that that one real estate agent son?” Tyler asked. “What’s her name? Rebecca? You know, she’s on all of the billboards.”
“That’s the one,” Amanda said.
Tyler sighed; he couldn’t compete with some rich kid.
We walked into a store, I wasn’t sure which one, and immediately I noticed a gorgeous maxi dress against the wall.
“Oh my gosh!” I said, as I ran toward the dress on the opposite side of the store. “This is gorgeous!”
Lorraine looked at the price tag, “It had better be for fifteen hundred bucks!”
I shrugged and looked at it. My dad had left me a ton of money, more than I could possibly spend, even if I paid for college and a brand new car.
I sifted through the rack till I found my size, I decided to try it on.
I walked out of the changing room, and looked in the three sided mirror, the pink looked great on my skin tone, and the lime green accentuated my eyes. The flower pattern fit my personality, and the length, surprisingly, looked great on my short frame.
“Ellie,” That looks gorgeous!” Tyler said.
I blushed, “Thanks,” I said.
“So, are you going to get it?” Amanda asked, “because I soo think you should!”
“I think so,” I said, “the price is kind of high, but I think it’s worth it.”
Lorraine snorted, “Kinda high? You could put a down payment on a car for that much!”
“Be realistic, Lorraine,” I said. “It’s not quite that expensive.”
I took another look at myself in the mirror, and went to go change back into my normal clothes, well, normal-ish.
I stepped out of the dressing room, and announced my verdict, “I’m getting it.” I said. “It’s the most gorgeous thing I have seen, ever. It’s even better looking than Charlie Prinz.”
Amanda laughed, “Now THAT’S something, not much is better looking than him.” She stole a glance at Tyler, and blushed slightly. I think she included him in that category of “not much.”
I mean, Tyler was a great looking guy, but I had known him for forever, he was my best friend/brother, I wasn’t going to look at him in that way, EVER, and, honestly, I think he knew that, deep down inside. He just didn’t want to give up hope, that, maybe, one day I would change my mind, and see my best friend in a whole new light.
I think he watches too many chick flicks with me and Lorraine.
I took the dress up to the cash register, and proceeded to pay cash for the gorgeous dress.
I had decided to completely re-invent myself, and this dress was the perfect place to start.
I looked at my friends, “You know,” I said, “I think I need a pair of shoes to go with this, I don’t exactly have the right kind at home.”
Amanda laughed, “I think you’re right,” she said, “All you have are Old Navy flip flops, tennis shoes, and Prada heels.”
“Hey,” I protested, “I have Gucci heels too!”
“Oh, I’m sorry, I don’t want to diss Gucci by leaving it out of your oh-so-extensive shoe collection!” she said, sarcastically.
“Ha ha,” I said.
“You know,” Amanda said, “I know the perfect shoes to go with that dress, and lucky for you, they just went on sale today!”
“Really?” I asked.
“Yeah, they’re Louis Vuittons!” she said.
“Oh, joy!” Tyler said, not wanting to be dragged around the mall in search of designer shoes.
We got to the store, and Amanda rushed inside, dragging me with her.
The shoes were just inside the store, on a rack, displaying the brand new beauties.
They were gorgeous, a black sole, with black leather flip flop straps, and pink, green, and white bands around the ankle, and an invisible zipper up the back, so you could get your foot into it, but it was still fashionable.
Amanda was right, they fit the dress perfectly.
I looked at the price, five hundred. Not bad for Louis Vuittons.
Just then the sales associate walked up, and asked if she could help us with anything.
I asked if I could get this pair of shoes in a seven-and-a-half, and walked off toward the back room, to look for these coveted sandals.
She came back, a box in her hand, and said, “Here you go, is there anything else I can get for you?”
“Not at the moment, but thank you.” I told her.
“You’re welcome; I’ll be by the registers if you need anything else.”
“Ok, thank you.” I said.
I tried on the flip flops, and they fit perfectly.
“Those are gorgeous,” Lorraine said.
“I know,” I said back.
I admired my feet in them one last time, and took them off, placed them carefully back in the box, put my heels back on, and walked, casually, to the counter to pay for my shoes.
Once the lady handed me the receipt, I was done, I couldn’t shop anymore, you know the saying ‘shop till you drop’? It was true, I did drop, onto the bench outside of the store.
“I’m pooped.” I said. I pulled out my cell phone and checked the time, it was almost nine o’clock, the mall would be closing soon anyway, and I had told my stepmom that I would be home by nine. “Oh, crap, I gotta go!” I said. “I told Tonia I would be back by nine, and it’s eight-fifty now!”
“I’ll take you.” Amanda said.
“No, it’s ok,” Tyler piped up, “I can take her back; it’s not too far from my house.”
“Tyler, we moved, remember?” I said. “I’m on the other side of town now.”
“I don’t mind,” he said, “I haven’t gotten to spend time with you in forever.”
“I guess I don’t mind,” I said, “I’ve missed you, too. Are you ok with it, Amanda?” I asked.
“Yeah, it’s fine by me,” she said.
“Ok,” I said, “I guess you’re my ride then, Tyler.”
“Good, let’s go, you have to get home.”
I grabbed my shopping bags, and walked to his car.
Charlie Prinz was in for a surprise in the morning, because this new girl was going to catch his eye.
