I've said it before and I'll say it again, of that I have no doubt: Ooorah's SFSD's really are pretty awesome. OK I know, considering I'm partly responsible for their existence I could be called a little biased but c'mon, I dare anyone to say any different.
So way back in the heady days of SFSD II (I believe... It was a long time ago, certainly), we had a tie. No matter how many times our judges did their judging the final round entries from parishsp & I believe it was Nika_Yaya were inseparable. That means we had to have a tie-breaker round to determine a winner.
Now, I had every intention of reviewing both of those tie-breaker stories here but as Nika's tale is no longer on Wattpad, 'least not as far as I can find, it looks as though the single review will have to do!
As the title of the piece suggests, parishsp's short is essentially about a pair of scientists, Amos and Hannah, who create the cure for cancer.
SP's thoughtful, well crafted words, walk you through a rather suspenseful scenario whereby, unsurprisingly, the 'higher-ups,' don't want to know about the cure. Cancer treatments are too profitable and they're unwilling to lose out on all that potential currency.
'The Cure,' is not a Singularity SF story in the strictest sense, in fact if we are to use the definition of the Technological Singularity then it doesn't even come close. I believe, however, that there is so much more to the Singularity than purely technology. There has to be. In my opinion, for the Singularity to even exist, if and when it does, then it has to do so across science in all of its guises.
And let's be honest for a moment, if we're talking medical science as with parishsp's 'The Cure,' then finding the cure for cancer and diseases like it is, without a doubt, the ultimate goal. Once we get there, I suspect there'll be very little we can't do!
I highly recommend you give this short a read. Hell, I highly recommend you read all of parishsp's work. Those of you who have already done so will know what I'm talking about, she's a rather talented lass who deserves a far larger following on Wattpad than she has so check that external link, give this short a read!
