The corner of the bar was dimly lit, the soft hum of music and chatter fading into the background. Taehyung sat across from Jisoo, his heart pounding so loudly he swore she could hear it.

Jisoo, on the other hand, looked unreadable—calm, collected, like none of this was affecting her. But he knew better. He had known her once, really known her, and the way she clenched her hands around her glass, the way she exhaled just a second too slowly—she wasn't okay.

Neither was he.

For the first time in his life, Taehyung didn't know what to say. He had always been good with words, charming his way through any situation, but right now, words felt useless.
She sipped her water, her fingers curled tightly around the glass, as if grounding herself.

She was waiting for him to speak.

But now that he had the chance, he didn't know where to start.

"So..." he tried, shifting uncomfortably. "How have you been?"

Jisoo let out a soft chuckle, raising an eyebrow.
He winced. "Yeah, okay, bad start." He ran a hand through his hair, exhaling. "I just... I don't really know how to do this."

Jisoo tilted her head. "Do what?"

He hesitated before saying, "Talk to you after everything."

Her expression flickered, just for a second. But then she smiled, small and unreadable. "Tae, it's been two years. You don't owe me anything."
But that was the thing—he did owe her. He just hadn't realized it until now.

"You do" he said quietly. "You do owe me. An explanation. An apology. Something."

Jisoo sighed, setting her glass down. "What's the point, Tae? It's the past."

"But it doesn't feel like the past," he admitted. "Not for me."

Jisoo's breath hitched, but she quickly masked it. "Why now? Why are you bringing this up tonight?"
Taehyung hesitated. How was he supposed to put this into words? That he had been a complete idiot? That he had spent years thinking about her but never understanding why?

His fingers tapped restlessly against the table. "Because I miss you."

Jisoo froze, her lips parting slightly. "Tae—"

"I don't know why you stopped talking to me," he continued, his voice growing frustrated. "I don't know why you pulled away. But I do know that when you left, I—" He took a deep breath, shaking his head. "I wasn't the same."

Jisoo clenched her jaw. "Tae, don't do this."

"Do what?" he asked, his tone almost pleading.

"Say things that make this harder than it already is."

His chest tightened. "Why would it be hard, Jisoo? You were my best friend. You just disappeared. You left me without a word. I spent years trying to figure out what I did wrong—"

"What do you want to talk about, Tae?" Straight to the point. No sugarcoating. No small talk. That was always Jisoo.

Taehyung exhaled sharply, leaning forward. "You left."

Jisoo's grip tightened on her glass. "You liked Jennie." He froze. His stomach twisted, but he forced himself to meet her gaze. "I thought I did."
