Maraiah's POV
Life has been rough lately. My mind is clouded with pressure and I couldn't stop myself from overthinking. We haven't received our credentials so I still have to wait until they release my license. To keep myself from drowning, I often hangout with the girls, sinusulit na rin namin mag-bonding habang may oras pa. Mikha and I remained civil, just casual conversations, but sometimes I feel awkward lalo na sa mga tingin ng kaibigan namin sa amin.
Right now, I'm outside the living room, waiting for the Uber to arrive. Where to? Story time: I didn't know what has gotten to me but I messaged Mikha two days ago, and guess what? Inaya ko siya mag-hike! It was so random, past midnight, but she agreed. With only less than a week before a new semester starts, I feel like it's the perfect timing. So, I set the location kung saan kami magkikita.
When a notification pops on my phone from the driver followed by a sound of horn outside, I grab my stuff and said my goodbye to my mom. Lumabas na rin ako at sumakay.
About 30 minutes later, nakarating na ako sa destination, I thanked kuya driver and look for Mikha.
“Ate Aiah!” Tinawag niya ako habang papalapit siya sa'kin.
I turn around and smile when I saw her. She's wearing a light grey trouser pants, white muscle tee, black cap, warm specs, a smartwatch, and a good pair of black shoes. Sakto lang sa laki ang dala niyang bag at tumbler. I, on the other hand, wear a black leggings, light blue sando, the arm sleeves of my hoodie jacket wrapped around my shoulder. A cap and also a shade.
I asked. “Ready?”
Her lips thinned as she nodded her head. “Lead the way.”
Naglakad kami ni Mikha papunta entrance ng mountain campground. I haven't hiked in a long time at hindi rin ako nakakapag-jog lately kaya pinili ko munang 'di kataasan ang aakyatin namin. Also, because it's Mikha's first time to go for a hike.
When we arrive at the starting point, I glance at Mikha. “We should get there before sunset.” Sabi ko habang nakaturo sa tuktok ng bundok.
Mikha hummed. “Have you been here before?”
We started walking. “Sa kabilang side. Itong aakyatin na'tin, it faces towards the rural area, trees and sea is our view. Sa east side nito, city lights.” I explained. Napaisip din ako, so, I added. “It depends, which one do you prefer ba, Mikhs?”
Mikha looks at me. She exhaled a deep breath. “The latter. I need to relax eh.” Sabi niya.
I squinted my eyes at her. “Bigat nun ah.”
Ngumiti lang siya at nagpatuloy sa paglalakad. Almost an hour later, halfway through the peak, we decided to stop and have a water break.
“Kaya pa?” I ask dahil pansin kong hinihingal siya.
She flips her cap and wet her lips before she answer, and damn that was hot.
Shut it, Aiah!
“I should've gone for a run before this.” She chuckled.
I smirk. “Nagsisisi ka na ba?”
She sheepishly smile at me. “Nope.” She said and carry the tent bag beside my backpack. “Ako na magdadala nito. Tara?”
I try not to smile at the simple gesture as I close my tumbler.
I nod. “Tara.”
We resumed to hike. From time to time, we find ourselves strike random conversations, joke around and laugh at our own silliness that the next thing we know, we're just a step away from the peak. We pause, taking our time to indulge the moment we're in. Fresh air softly brushing our skin, birds free flying, the smell of green grass, the landscape overview, and the deep blue sea faraway greet us in the most satisfying and calming way possible.
