The night after Colet's proposal to Maloi
Colet sat on the stool beside Mikha who's nursing the drink on her hand, seemingly deep in thought. She invited Mikha and Gwen to a bar to celebrate, but Gwen had been long gone in her dream world, drunk. Colet asked the waiter for a glass of tequila.
With one sip, she clears her throat and gazed at Mikha. "Mikhs..."
Mikha heed no response.
"Mikha." She repeated and place a hand on Mikha's shoulder to get her attention.
Mikha blinks. She straighten up in her seat. "Vergara." She muttered as she finishes her drink only to grimaced at its taste. The melted ice cubes mixed in whiskey surely weren't a good combination. She ordered another.
Colet observed her. Mikha has been emotionally distant. She still manage to show up but she's detached. Lately they find her often in parties and night outs, meddling with people that are out of her radar. It really didn't matter to her what they are, she doesn't even know their surnames or where they live. Nonetheless, they keep her accompanied. Mikha is not herself. She's caged and fragile like anytime she'll shatter completely beyond repair. Gwen witnessed the same scenario before. It terrifies her but she feels helpless, she couldn't do anything because Mikha won't open up to her.
Day by day, the red haired they used to know was slowly drifting off.
Colet heaves a sigh. "Mikhs, alam kong may pinagdadaanan ka."
Mikha quickly look away.
"You can talk to me." Colet said in a soft tone.
Mikha emptied her glass and again asked for another. Colet could only shake her head and let out a frustrated breath.
"Mikhs...I know I may not be the best person to share your burdens-"
Mikha cuts her off. "Hindi talaga." She bitterly spits.
Colet understands where Mikha's harshness is coming from. The silence is heavy. Full of tension.
"I'm sorry." Colet said.
Mikha ignored her. She had drink a lot that her head starts to spin, but she didn't mind and just let the alcohol contains her body hoping it will eliminate the pain inside.
By the time Mikha begins blabbering incoherent words, Colet took the glass from her hand, making the red haired glare at her.
"Tama na 'yan, lasing ka na." Mahinahong sambit ni Colet.
Mikha scoffs. "And?"
Colet could feel her patience wavers but she reminds herself to calm down.
She stands up and placed a bill on the countertop. "Hahatid na kita sa inyo."
Mikha stubbornly shakes her head and pry Colet's hand when she held her up.
"You!" Mikha pointed at her. "You.Go.Home."
"Lim. Huwag matigas ang ulo." She said to Mikha with a stern voice, but a drunk person won't recognize that, or even if they do, they simply don't care.
Mikha slurred. "Hindi matigas ulo ko, Vergara. Puso ko 'yong matigas." She let out a dry laugh. "Pero mas matigas sa inyo. You! Especially you!" She faced Colet trying to keep her eyes shut open.
Colet leaned her elbow onto the counter while her right hand's keeping Mikha steady.
"Wala akong choice, Mikhs. Nakiusap sa'kin si Aiah."
"Bullshit-ugh!" Mikha attempted to stand up but tripped on her toes. Colet was fast to catch and balance her back up. Mikha slightly push her arm away and runs a hand through her hair. "We always have a choice. You had a choice. She had a choice!" She said through gritted teeth. Her jaw tightens, and the words seem to sober her up.
Aiah flashes on her mind. The last time she saw her. That night was perfect, why did everything changed when she woke up?
Why did Aiah had to leave without trace? Where did they go wrong? What happened?
"Mikhs...hindi kita maintindihan. Bakit galit ka parin sa'kin at kay Aiah kung may bago ka na?"
As much as she's deeply concern to Mikha at may kasalanan siya dito sa paglihim niya sa pag alis ni Aiah, it doesn't quite make sense that Mikha still dwells in the past when everybody in their group know she has found someone new.
What Colet didn't expect was a tear to escape Mikha's dull eyes.
"Cause it hurts. It fucking hurts, Vergara."
Hindi nakapagsalita si Colet. It was the first time she saw her cry. Mikha let the tears fall.
Mikha said in a whisper. "What was she doing these past years? Is she happy?"
Colet felt her knees tremble, it breaks to see Mikha like this, she's always been tough. Aiah may be her best friend, pero hindi niya maatim na nagkakaganito si Mikha.
Mikha opens her mouth to speak but her next words hung in the air as Colet blurted it out. "Babalik si Aiah."
Mikha's perplexed expression was now replaced with an unreadable stare.
How does that supposed to make her feel?
Babalik si Aiah.
Ano bang ibig sabihin non-
Sa pagbabalik ni Aiah,
magbabalik din ba sa dati ang lahat?
"That didn't mean she's coming back for me."
Mikha murmurs as she walked past Colet.
"Tatanggapin mo ba siya?"
Colet's question made her halt on her steps, but Mikha didn't answer. She rushed outside only to shiver as the cold wind blows her skin.
