Ling Song was left alone with Lin, who watched him in disbelief.
"You." Ling Song started, his voice steady but firm as he looked at the other man "What’s your relationship with him?" He asked after turning around to have a good look at the other man.
Lin after hearing him, swallowed hard, feeling the weight of the question. He hesitated, torn between his lingering feelings for Jian and the fear of being cast out. If Ling Song truly had feelings for Jian, then his presence here might be unwelcome.
"Tell the truth... it's useless lying" Ling Song’s sharp gaze bore into him. There was no room for deception, he was already in a bad mood.
Lin exhaled shakily. "I'm... his ex-lover." he admitted, his voice tense with unease not wanting to get on his boss's bad side.
Ling Song studied him for a moment before responding with an indifferent hum. "Mhm. Okay. You can go." He turned away, his mind racing. First, Mei. Now, this pretty boy. It felt like every step he took toward Yang Yifei, another person appeared to block his path. He let out a sigh, pushing his frustration down as he followed the direction Yang Yifei had gone.
"Little boss..."
Ling Song froze at the sound of Lin’s voice. He turned back, waiting.
Lin clenched his fists before speaking, his voice carrying a quiet determination. "I'm still in love with him." He doesn't want to get on his boss's bad side, but he still need Jian.
The words hit Ling Song harder than he expected. He said nothing, just turned on his heel and ran.
His teeth sank into his bottom lip as he fought the emotions welling up inside him. He knew he didn’t stand a chance—not with this body, not with the way Yang Yifei saw him. The bitter reality settled in his chest, heavy and suffocating. His vision blurred, but he refused to let the tears fall.
It felt just like his first life all over again—always watching from a distance, never able to reach him. And now, even with a second chance, he was facing an even bigger wall. Thicker. Indestructible.
But then he stopped.
Standing between two houses, the dark alley surrounding him, an idea sparked in his mind. His breath steadied. His pulse slowed.
If the world wouldn’t give him a chance—then he would make one.
But then, Damian appeared in front of him, floating in midair. It opened itself, and from blank pages, words began to fill the paper.
"The goddess has a gift for you. She heard your wish and will grant it."
Ling Song’s eyes widened as he grabbed the book from the air and pulled it closer. "Really?" Finally, that useless goddess was being useful.
"Your wish will be granted, but there is a consequence."
"Come on, it's my birthday! I heard that when it's your birthday, the game is supposed to give you gifts! Why is it so difficult for you to just give me a simple 19-year-old body?"
"Consequence of granting the 19-year-old body: One month in the goddess's realm. During that time, anomalies will occur on Earth in your absence."
Ling Song was about to protest when the book was smoothly snatched from his hands.
Yang Yifei scanned the words on the page, his expression unreadable. "So that's how you make things... interesting."
"Hello, I’m Damian. The cheat system."
Yang Yifei raised an eyebrow. "So without this, you're actually nothing." he murmured, a dark grin spreading across his lips.
