The juniors landed in Wei WuXian's workshop, only to find the said man waiting for then along with his husband, a wide smile plastered on his face. Before any of them could even greet or say a word, a force had collided suddenly with WuXian, almost making him lose his balance if not for the protective embrace of his husband around him.
He looked ahead, only to find Jing Ling missing for the bunnies group and understood why. The said teen was so damn emotional that WuXian could feel a hot trail of tears on his fabric. He chuckled at the baby of the group and patted his back without saying anything. He couldn't, not when he had just tried to dodge a guilty WanYin from trying to apologize to him.
Flashback
If he had said he was shocked, it would have been an understatement. Jiang WanYin hadn't imagined that he would get to see a day when he would have to feel guilty about his behaviour with Wei WuXian so soon.
Back in those days, it only took them a short period of time to calm down and go back to being their normal bickering self. But, now - after two wars, so many years of separation and the absence of YanLi - there was a difference of Heavens and Earth between them.
Well, for the starters, these days there was no concept of bickering at all between them, as all they did was throw sharp barbs at each other. Still, in recent months , since he began meeting with Lan XiChen to bring the man out of Seclusion , something had changed. They had gained a semblance of peace, at least.
But, his recent outburst regarding Jin Ling had once again created a bridge of tension between them. He had once again said words in the heat of the moment that he couldn't take back, however much he wished.
When he witnessed Wei WuXian once again selflessly taking away Jin Ling's curse mark onto himself, that too just after their fiasco at the inn, Jiang WanYin had become short of words for the very first time.
Of course, he had heard all about Wei WuXian's self-sacrificing penchants and seen itpp for himself more times than he could count on his hands.
The Xuanwu cave was the first large-scale sacrifice he had seen from him. It was certified that Wei WuXian was a self sacrificing type of guy, and he had berated his former shixiong for it a countless times in their past, for he never really understood, why would someone go to such extents to save someone that wasn't family; be it MianMian, Lan WangJi or the Wens.
But to see him using his same sacrificial tendencies towards A-Ling, Jiang WanYin felt ashamed for his outburst for the first time in decades, something he had not even felt when he had learnt about the Golden Core transfer, thought it was a twisted case on it's own. He finally understood why someone like Wei WuXian would help people, irrespective of the price they had to pay.
WanYin himself was a grown ass man, and not being in control of his own emotions was literally embarrassing. He could have talked it out with WuXian, but no, all he did was scream at his former brother, erasing all the progress they made in building up their relationship again, in the past few days, inevitably going back to square one.
A small cry left his throat at the helplessness he felt now. He had no idea about how to handle the situation with his former brother. Luckily, he had ZeWu-Jun, who never let him spiral down in his own mind. His tight and firm grip on his waist and back had calmed down WanYin somewhat, as his soft voice travelled into his ears, bleeding away some more of the anxiety.
'WanYin. There, there, please breathe for me, baobei. I know you are feeling so conflicted right now. You are confused over your own actions. You don't know whether it was wrong of you to be so stressed about Jin Ling's panic attack and, in turn, hurting your Shixiong with your barbed words.
