The deed is done now people, we’re on our way to my mom’s house since it’s only 6. I hope that “mother knows” shit isn’t true this time, I do not need Tiana getting embarrassed, shy, and/or insecure no time soon. Ever since we’ve walked out the house, Tiana has had a death grip on my hand, so I know she’s nervous “Calm down, it’ll be fine” I said chuckling because even now she’s holding my hand “Do you think they’ll like me??” she asked sounding like a nervous wreck “Yes, I really do” I answered for the 90th time, ok I’m exaggerating, but that’s how it feels “How do you know??” she asked nervous as ever “Because I do, & you make me happy, you’re not a gold digger, you’re VERY independent, & you can COOK!” she laughed & I chuckled glad I could lighten the mood, her nervousness is kinda cute though “Ok, I guess you’re right” she might’ve said that but the circulation loss I’m feeling in my hand disagrees. Just then one of her favorite songs Pour It Up by Rihanna came on, & she let my hand go, FINALLY! & turned the volume up & sang along. After a while I turned the volume down “Heeeeyyyyy, what’d you do that for???” she asked in a little girl voice & pouted a little “You can sing!” I said as more of a statement than a question “Psh. Me??? Sing??? Nooooooo, only when I’m singing along” I looked at her like she was stupid “…Ok, fine, yes I can sing” she said giving in “But I don’t like people to know that about me, I know it’s gonna sound weird, but singing to myself was how I was able to keep myself at peace, it was kinda like my escape & it was kinda like how I kept in touch with my biological mom, I started singing when I was 4, about four years before I was abandoned by my parents, and I guess I just thought that if I kept singing maybe she would come & find me or recognize my voice & just take me with her, anywhere & I would finally stop going through so much hell in my life” wow, that has to be a lot to take in especially at 8 years old, I wonder if she wants to hop on a song “Before you ask, I’m not doing any songs, 1. I don’t want anybody to think I’m with you because of it 2. That’s not something I love, it’s only a talent 3. I don’t wanna be famous or even close, too much pressure & too annoying & 4. I only do it when I’m sad or there’s a song on I like” well shut my dreams down “Sorry, but I’ve had the opportunity to sing professionally it didn’t feel right, especially with no family, & I didn’t want friends for the wrong reason… speaking of friends, Taina doesn’t know about me being able to sing, so please, keep it to yourself” what!?!? I know something Tai doesn’t know, I feel special now, I smiled & nodded in understanding as we pulled up at my mom’s house.

“You ready???” I asked Tiana as I opened the door for her “Uh yeah, I guess” she said as she got out the car & grabbed my hand… damn, here we go again, my hand had just recovered from the last time. We walked up to the door & I knocked, while Tiana hid behind me & held my hand a distance, a few seconds later my mom came to the door, and Tiana let my hand go. “Issa, my baby!” my mom exclaimed “how nice to see you again” she continued hugging me “Now, where is this girlfriend of yours that’s been keeping you busy” she asked, I reached behind me & grabbed Tiana’s hand to reveal her face “Mom this is… “ she cut me off “Tiana!” she said, what the hell did I miss??? “how have you been sweetheart???” she asked, I’m confused as hell

This world is toooooooo fucking small, I can’t believe this is his mom “Hey, Mrs. Peterkin, I’ve been fine, and you” I said, she was always so sweet to me “I’ve been great, come in, come in” she said opening the door wider for us to walk in. Issa confused ass walked in first, and I followed as his mom closed the door behind us. “Mom, Sanaa won’t stop crying” Agyei said walking down the stairs with a crying Sanaa following behind her, then Sanaa looked at me & ran straight towards me as I picked her up “What’s wrong Miracle???” I call her that because as a baby she almost didn’t make it, and the longer she lived the more doctors started to doubt her abilities. She shook her head telling me nothing was wrong & laid her head on my shoulder “Tiana!!!!!” Agyei screamed “What are you doing here??? It’s been forever!” she continued. See I used to be kinda sorta like a mentor to Agyei while I was still in high school, part of this ‘Big Sister, Little Sister’ program our schools offered, I didn’t want to do it, but Taina persuaded me, and I’m glad she did. “I know, but I didn’t know Issa was your brother” “Wait, so you’re Issa’s girlfriend???” she asked happy, curious & shocked “Yes” I said smiling up at him “Wait… your eyes are green???” his mom asked “Yeah, I wore contacts for a long period of time, due to an incident from when I was younger, and I went to the eye doctor & found out I don’t need them anymore” I replied. “How does everybody know each other???” Issa asked finally snapping out of his daze “Remember the days you would come home & Agyei wasn’t here???” his mom asked him “Yeah, and you said she was with her mentor or something” he said remembering the past “Well, Tiana, was my mentor” Agyei responded “And she was the reason mom & dad were able to go to a lot of your shows & we stayed behind without being upset or bored” she finished “What?!?! How come nobody ever told me???” he asked “You were always with your girlfriend at the time, & I’m surprised you didn’t know, Tiana came over here a lot & even chilled with me & Iesha in my room a few times you were here” Agyei responded sounding disgusted by the thought of whoever was his girlfriend then. “Where is my little boyfriend???” I asked “Somewhere running around here like he doesn’t have any home training” Mrs. Peterkin said & I chuckled “Kei!!!! Come here!!!!” she yelled. A few seconds later I heard footsteps running towards us. “Kei, look who’s here” Ngozi (Issa’s mom) said looking in my direction, and Kei followed her gaze “Tee!!!!!!!!!!!!!” he screamed running & hugging my legs. I put Sanaa down & bent down to Kei’s level as I hugged him “I missed you” I said as we pulled away “I missed you more” he said with a smile “Aww, what you been up to??” I asked with a smile “Nothing, just playing” he said “No trouble???” “Nope” I kissed his cheek “That’s what I like to hear” I said picking Sanaa back up. He held the cheek where I kissed it, & zoned out “She loves me” he said just above a whisper and walked off. I laughed along with Ngozi & Agyei as we walked into the living room “So what you been up to, stranger?” Agyei asked as we sat down “Nothing just school and working” I replied back, as Issa chuckled “You always were a hardworker” Ngozi said chuckling a bit more “So how did you two meet?” she finished. Issa & I looked at each other & laughed a little “Funny story actually, we had a few run-ins in high school, but never paid each other much attention” I started “& then one day I was out with F.Y.B. & we ran into each other again at her job, where our worst run-in occurred” he said chuckling. “What happened?” Agyei asked curiously “& if it was the worst encounter, how are you 2 sitting here as a couple???” his mother asked, also curiously. “Weeeelllllll…. About that” Issa & I said in unison, and then we went on to explain our first encounter at Friday’s & then the story about our blind date, leaving the part out about the crazy, stalker, ex-boyfriend I have & the part about us being ‘Friends With Benefits. “Ok, so what happened after yall left the restaurant together?” Agyei asked really intrigued, and Issa looked down at me, I guess I’m supposed to answer that question, shit… I need a lie, don’t want them to think I’m bringing trouble into his life… ooohhh I got it “Well after that we argued about him dropping me off at my house, & eventually I grew tired & gave up the argument & fell asleep on the drive, and when I woke up the next morning I was confused, because I didn’t know where I was or how I ended up with sweatpants on, and I went downstairs & there he sat” he chuckled at my story “When she came down the stairs, you would’ve thought she seen a ghost, & as soon as we made eye contact, she ran back upstairs, and few minutes later she came back down & walked out the door” he said finishing up the lie “Yeah & then I screwed myself over because I left my clutch at his house, so I had to go back, and when I did some kind of way we started talking & eventually developed a friendship & finally a relationship” I said smiling, I hope that sounds believable. “Oh wow that’s crazy” Agyei said “& weird” I said & giggled “Ok, so how did he ask you to be his girlfriend???” Ngozi asked & Issa’s face went red with embarrassment, I giggled again “Ok, that’s my cue to leave” he said then walked off. “Ok, well anyway, the way he asked was so sweet & deep, it was like a side of him that I’ve never seen before” I said & then continued to tell them about Satuday’s adventures avoiding the subject of Quan, only because it was irrelevant really, and I also left out the part of the headboard banging, that would be too weird & awkward. When I finished telling the details of our day out, his mom was in tears, she is so emotional, & Agyei looked like she was planning to use this in her advantage for something. “Who knew my baby could be so deep & sentimental???” Ngozi said with a smile “Definitely not me” Agyei & I said in unison then looked at each other & laughed. “Are yall staying for dinner???” Ngozi asked, I shrugged “I don’t know, but I will if you want us to” I replied with a smile “Of course” she said & walked in the kitchen leaving Agyei & I to talk, since Sanaa had fallen asleep in my lap.
