that night, i open a window in my bedroom, praying that no mosquitoes or small insects enter my room. california is much more humid than minnesota at night, and the AC system isn't set up yet. 

i open a box labeled "MAGGIE BEDROOM", looking for the diary with the ugliest cover that my mom bought from a craft store.

never did i think i would use it, but given an opportunity like this, i might as well. i sit criss cross on my bed, finding a random pen. i flip to the first page and take the cap off of my pen.

we moved to LA today. i'm still in shock about everything. getting the role on a freaking nickelodeon show, persuading (basically begging) mom and dad to move, it's so surreal. we met our new neighbors too. mom used her minnesotan charm on them. to admit, i don't remember any of their names, except for the youngest boy. his name is jace. the strangest coincidence? we're working together on henry danger. he's the starring role!! and he's cute. but it was pretty awkward meeting him. we didn't have a lot to talk about. i blushed way too hard. is there a possibility to change how much you blush? mom says that i need to break out of my shell. maybe he'll make me do that. we'll see how that goes...maggie parker

i close the journal and swing my legs off my bed. i look out the window, looking for a shooting star to wish on, a superstition that i grew up with.

i glance to the house next to us. a light is on in a bedroom. as i peek, a silhouette walks by. i walk to my desk to put my journal in a drawer, but most importantly to look closer at the neighbor's window. i look closely at the silhouette, and of course, it's the boy that i had scribbled and poured my heart out about in my journal.

i look back at the window, praying he doesn't see me staring at him. man, what am i doing? 

i get back into bed and grab my phone to text my friends back home about my day, but most importantly, the boy i had met.
